It was a very good play. But well, it's not good when your shortstop can't survive bending over and making a play on a hard hit grounder. I'm seeing the writing on the wall, and I don't like it.
Hmmm...if he did tweak something on the play as it looked to us like he did - why did he hit?
I was still holding out a little bit, being an optimist and considering how often his injuries occur as a result of crashing into something (2nd basemen, catchers, balls, spikes)... but I think I have to finally officially call Crosby fragile.
They look at the results of the inning. Look how HARD they hit the ball off him. Eventually they'll fall in or go over the damn wall. Hitting the ball HARD means they've figured him out.
If the A's lose 2-1 (and it's still relatively early), it's the offense that lost the game. For Kennedy to somehow only give up 2 through 6 is a quality start. The fact he's thrown a few to the backstop is amusing more than a managerial error.
At least not this one. My point is you need to know when you're flirting with disaster. When the opponent's offense hammers the ball off your pitcher, you're flirting.
He's the mop-up guy. He's been a mop-up guy for a long time. Putting a mop-up guy in a big situation runs counter to what the mop-up guy is meant for. Because, you see, he'll pitch like a mop-up guy: not that well.
standing in the front row clapping with his grandson for Vlad as he entered the dugout. Sure looked like him and the same kid they showed with grandpa the other day. WTF?
Well, I guess it could have been Henry Gibson. Watched it over and over and it sure does look like Wolf. Anyways, whatever. Sorry for the interruption and sure the hell hope I'm wrong.
"Bobby Crosby was removed from Friday's game in the sixth inning due to back spasms.
It's always something. Marco Scutaro took over at shortstop and likely will play the position for the next couple of days at least. It's moments like this that make us wonder why the A's chose Todd Walker over Antonio Perez."
if they can make K-Rod pitch it's important--it would be three games in a row for him. Speier is tanked, and Shields has pitched in two straight. Still two games left in the series...
Too bad the first week W-L record doesn't reflect the outstanding top to bottom performance of our #1 thru #5. May have been the best in the majors (Esty who?). I am going to hit the john when we are battinmg this year - and make sure not to miss a pitch.
God bless Joe Kennedy - we will need him with with what I believe will be a lukewarm and cold offense all year.
.. the A's are, as Marty Lurie describes them, "Grinders" - they rarely get going offensively until the weather turns warm in June and July. And you are correct, they don't have a really potent offense but usually manage to "grind out" enough runs to win in games where they get really good pitching and defense, - which thankfully is a fair portion of their games. The Angels don't have an overwhelming offense either, they are similar to the A's in reliance on good pitching and defense, except they run more, - probably because Scoscia is more of a national league type of manager.
Right now I am much more concerned with all the injuries, than with whether the A's are going to hit or not. If the A's can put their "A-Team" out there they will win plenty of games; if they have to put their 'C' or 'D' team as with today, well .. it's gonna be a loonnngggg season .. {g} .. let's hope the former, the 'A' team, will be able to play the maximum games possible. The bench does look better than last year, and there are players with MLB experience now playing in Sacramento who can help out if needed ..
Lets just hope that

No, but Moseley's throwing a shutout.

Good job!

Anyone know
the whereabouts of Antonio Perez? I probably should just be satisfied that he's not taking AB's tonight, but did another team claim him?

No, cleared waivers... so he's in Sac

Nope. He cleared waivers

Agreed.
And once again, Nico has the best line.

Poppy - April 6, 2007

xbhaskarx - April 6, 2007
sarcasm-free reply:
Perez was DFA'd, cleared waivers, sent to Sacto.
Poppy - April 6, 2007
i know, it was a rhetorical question...
reported by rotoworld.
xbhaskarx - April 6, 2007
*whew*
That would have thrown the universe totally out of whack.
Poppy - April 6, 2007
how is that not strike 3
pickinmachine - April 6, 2007
Inconsistency...
All game.
NewPosterMojo - April 6, 2007
Come on Senor Clutch!
DMOAS - April 6, 2007
5-1 Halos, Chavez = Tying run
This could be quite the at bat.
louismg - April 6, 2007
Lets go Chavvy!!!
pickinmachine - April 6, 2007
Who's calling on of the following?
K
groundout to short
groundout to third
I'd say K knowing Chavy
Rickeyfan - April 6, 2007
I call single...
...just 'cause. :)
FormerHuntsvilleStar - April 6, 2007
Wow, I'm either a psychic or a cynic
Rickeyfan - April 6, 2007
So I called wrong...
:(
FormerHuntsvilleStar - April 6, 2007
FIRE FHS NOW!!!
Poppy - April 6, 2007
I don't need this job...
...I was second place in gigglingone's NCAA Tournament bracket contest, darnit! I can predict college basketball (just not as good as Fongpay...).
FormerHuntsvilleStar - April 6, 2007
Why not guess HR?
Then maybe he would have done that instead... you called the K.
louismg - April 6, 2007
rickeyfan gets the HH blame of the game
xbhaskarx - April 6, 2007
lol, to be fair to chavy
he "drove in" one more run than I expected.
But seriously, when's the last time he's come through with RISP late in a tied / losing game?
Rickeyfan - April 6, 2007
Never.
And that's because the A's ALWAYS have the lead. (runs into rubber padded walls)
louismg - April 6, 2007
I love watching Scutaro score.
5-2 Halos now. Open base at first.
louismg - April 6, 2007
nice swing there chavy
xbhaskarx - April 6, 2007
K what a shock
Mr C - April 6, 2007
Even if the A's lose,
if they can make K-Rod pitch it's important--it would be three games in a row for him. Speier is tanked, and Shields has pitched in two straight. Still two games left in the series...
Nico - April 6, 2007
I was thinking the same thing ...
I know these guys have rubber arms, but, C'Mon they are trying to defy the laws of physics with their pen management! :(
Randy Bell - April 6, 2007
At this rate, it's not going to be long
before Jay Marshall passes Witasick on the "depth chart".
Nico - April 6, 2007
I for one...
Want Jay Marshall to start. He should be way ahead of Witasick on the chart.
louismg - April 6, 2007
depth charge?
OaklandSi - April 6, 2007
I LIKE Jay Marshall.
Poppy - April 6, 2007
Jay Marshall
Very nice job Jay Marshall!
apilgrim - April 6, 2007
Oh, well
Tomorrow should be interesting with Haren/Lackey.
Joey C. - April 6, 2007
jay marshall needs to pitch
four innings every game until the rest of the bullpen gets their acts together.
xbhaskarx - April 6, 2007
All I want right now...
is K-Fraud to throw a lot of pitches....
OaklandInvader - April 6, 2007
And please, no strikes.
Nico - April 6, 2007
and to get ejected for doctoring the ball
but only after he's already thrown a lot of pitches.
xbhaskarx - April 6, 2007
Heh, and lest we forget....
Blown the save....
OaklandInvader - April 6, 2007
Preferably 28 consecutive balls.
Poppy - April 6, 2007
That Marshall kid can pitch
Wow, straight from high A. Well done kid, you've earned your stripes.
baseb3383 - April 6, 2007
No sliders yet... hmm...
baseb3383 - April 6, 2007
finally threw a few..
and they didn't break that much. Not even close to the old nasty stuff we've seen over the years.
NewPosterMojo - April 6, 2007
MaEl woulda had that, Howie!
HAha
Poppy - April 6, 2007
Google-rod...
Missing a bit, like his lack of control...
OaklandInvader - April 6, 2007
full count on Buck
...and every pitch has been a fastbal except one. And it barely broke. Just like last night. Hmmmm.
NewPosterMojo - April 6, 2007
Must be the lack of
"resin" err... "rosin"
baseb3383 - April 6, 2007
Dammit, Rook!
OaklandInvader - April 6, 2007
Umm, guys
He's throwing a lot of fastballs. Hint...hint...
baseb3383 - April 6, 2007
travis buckle!

xbhaskarx - April 6, 2007
BUCK YEAH!!!
calgbear - April 6, 2007
OH YEAH!

Englishmajor - April 6, 2007
Buck can hit F-raud and King Felix.
Let's send him back down!
LAXile - April 6, 2007
Awesome at bat, Buck!
Aside from swinging at ball four, that rocked.
Time for the Scoot machine!
louismg - April 6, 2007
MARCO!
OaklandInvader - April 6, 2007
Come On Guys
Hit4TheCycle - April 6, 2007

xbhaskarx - April 6, 2007

baseb3383 - April 6, 2007

xbhaskarx - April 6, 2007

OaklandSi - April 6, 2007

DMOAS - April 6, 2007

It is time for some Kielty mojo!!!!
louismg - April 6, 2007
Beggin' for Klown Power...

OaklandInvader - April 6, 2007
K-fraud is a dick. Yes, Jesus loves you and
hates everyone else.
LAXile - April 6, 2007
Oh well, sometimes he gets not owned by us
Think of all the wonderful memories he's given A's baseball
baseb3383 - April 6, 2007

gotgreen - April 6, 2007
His celebrations just tick me off.
IM4Oakgal - April 6, 2007

I hate that, what a douche....
OaklandInvader - April 6, 2007
Oh well
We have Danny tomorrow...and I just called comcast upgraded my package so I can get FSN+ . :-) So this evening wasn't a total bust.
IM4Oakgal - April 6, 2007
I passiontely hate Gay- Rod.
iloveoakland - April 6, 2007
Which one?
hahaha
baseb3383 - April 6, 2007
Me too!
Way too excited over one stupid game in April. It's just too much show boating. It's what I don't like about sports in general. Too much.
A'sfansince1970 - April 6, 2007
Looks like Kennedy pitched well
Witasick sucks, oh well. Let's get them tomorrow, Danny boy!
A'sfansince1970 - April 6, 2007
Well his pitching line prolly looks better than
he actually looked doing it hehe.
IM4Oakgal - April 6, 2007
By Joe....
We may have found a 5th starter.
Sashulia - April 6, 2007
Agreed about our pitching, and have faith ..
.. the A's are, as Marty Lurie describes them, "Grinders" - they rarely get going offensively until the weather turns warm in June and July.
Randy Bell - April 7, 2007
Offense
The A's will get going, they always do!
