Oh yeah, there's one more game!
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!
So excited.
Our A's and Joe Kennedy take on the Giants for one more game before...dare I say it...THE REAL SEASON STARTS!!!!
P.S. I could NOT agree with Nico more. I initially was saying bring up Buck/Durazo and send down Perez, but this works just as well, maybe even better if you consider that Walker's D is probably better than Durazo's. Either way, it gets Buck up to the majors for a chance to play every day. LOVE this move; congrats A's management!

okay....my great escape today.
ak_A - April 1, 2007
you could see that coming.
ak_A - April 1, 2007
Whoo-ee
Joe Kennedy is bad. Can't wait to see how long he lasts in the rotation.
walk off bunt - April 1, 2007
rocked a bit in the first
lets see if he settles down
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
Bonds will get his HR's this season
I don't think Walker got the nod because of his D. I think he got it because the A's thought he'd be a better bench bat than Durazo.

does anyones mlbtv work? my says cant find file

ak_A - April 1, 2007
Mine works
The premium MLBtv broadcast works. Kruk and Kuip.
Patrick A - April 1, 2007
Whats the difference between Premium and reg?
OaktownRajah - April 1, 2007
damn it
must be my computer..
yeah is the premium the chronic or what?
NYC - April 1, 2007
Not much.
For 14.99, exactly what it was last year. For 19.99, better picture quality and the ability to watch up to six games at once. The better quality did it for me.

Ok
Woo-hoo Kielty. Smoked it.
mikeA - April 1, 2007
some people may be at the game
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
Uh oh
Bradley came out after 1 inning. That's a little early to be replaced in an exhibition game. Hopefully just precautionary.
Philip Christy - April 1, 2007
So...
Kennedy's ERA has gone down. Great, I guess.
Philip Christy - April 1, 2007

calculated Mt. Everest height to be one or two foot lower.
ak_A - April 1, 2007
Guess Kennedy doesn't fool Bonds
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
So far it appears that
the only person Kennedy knows how to fool is Billy Beane.Nico - April 1, 2007
QOTM nomination.
sums up 4,000-5,000 posts since ST started, but in a punchline
LAXile - April 1, 2007
I Hope for the A's Sake that ..
.. BB has the last laugh ..
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
Oh Barry..... (Zito)
mikeA - April 1, 2007
I continue to worry that
Kennedy's performance is going to be hampered by the fact that he really sucks. At least he's proving he can hold lefty hitters to 2 HRs and a triple. We really need to dominate the starts made by Harden, Haren, and Blanton until Loaiza gets back--hopefully that will be after missing just a couple starts.
Nico - April 1, 2007
less worried about his performance
against Bonds. Say what you will, Bonds has a good eye at the plate -- better than many players younger than him.
I'd be more worried about how Kennedy fares against other hitters.
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
Yikes.
Kennedy is terrible. And he's the fourth starter now... gulp.
Chavinator - April 1, 2007
Also want to add....
why is Danny Haren not starting against Noah Lowry like he's supposed to?! I know, I know, "Opening Day" or something, but c'mon, it's tradition. After all, they "went to Pepperdine" together. ;)
Chavinator - April 1, 2007
Kennedy will do fine.
mikeA - April 1, 2007
I Agree - am more optimistic now
.. who was it, Welch? .. had a 27.0 ERA in ST but went on to win the Cy Young in regular season ..
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
Welch had several successsful seasons
as a starter before that spring
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
Not saying Joe_K is "cy young" stuff, just ..
.. will hopefully be OK as a 5th-starter. I followed the Yahoo Sports Rumors closely and it seemed many teams have the same issue with finding a decent 5th ..
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
I hope so too
it's just that so far in his career he seems to be better in the pen than starting. But I'm sure we'll find out...
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
Kennedy....
Needs to not be in the majors. What is this horrible pitcher doing in our rotation?
markbot5 - April 1, 2007
{i think} he had lowest ERA from the pen last yr
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
It doesn't matter that he did well in the pen
what matters is that he does not have the talent to be a starting pitcher. I wonder if there is a better choice in another pitcher. Something tells me yes.
markbot5 - April 1, 2007
Needs to not be in the majors
.. that is what you have up there in your post. I thought you meant, including bullpen as well ..
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
Sorry
I was just taking my frustration out in extreme terms. I just don't think hes got the stuff of starters.
markbot5 - April 1, 2007
you may be right about Joe_K starting ..
.. but we are hoping for an A's Miracle come regular season .. {grin} ..
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
I certainly hope so.
I do feel good about the offense this season though.
markbot5 - April 1, 2007
Ugh.
I think some minor leaguer was supposed to be good enough by now.
MobiusKlein - April 1, 2007
Is Bradley dead?
Sharon - April 1, 2007
he played yesterday
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
and today!
BruceBochte - April 1, 2007
Did they say why he was taken out of the game?
Sharon - April 1, 2007
they took several starters out already
not really surprising
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
Ok.
Maybe I'm just paranoid.
Sharon - April 1, 2007
can't imagine why...
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
Yeah, it's not like
anyone besides me is out to get you, Sharon. OK, maybe jeepers. And Jennifer. But not salb918. OK, maybe salb918. And a few others.Nico - April 1, 2007
Who is the 5th starter
until Bloiaza gets of the DL?
BruceBochte - April 1, 2007
Gaudin (Halsey in training)
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
Oh please!
Gaudin has better pitching ability in his pinky then Halsey could ever dream of having. If Gaudin can add an off-speed pitch to his arsenal over the next off season he could be a good #3 pitcher or better next year.In fact, I predict that in 2 months Kennedy will be back in the pen and Gaudin will be our #5 starter.
Threepwood XX - April 1, 2007
perhaps
although there's been alot written about Gaudin needing at least one more good pitch -- and to improve his consistency -- in order to become a good starter
Even though no one would argue that Gaudin has a better arm, Halsey has definitely been sent to AAA -- and is joining the rotation -- to prepare for possible emergency starts.
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
Gaudin
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
Shouldn't you be in the opposing dugout?

4 points for us too! Let's hear it for medium-hottie Barry Kielty!!!!!!-Cindi.
Nico - April 1, 2007
Poor Melhuse.
RenoTy - April 1, 2007
Alas, Poor Meluse, I know him well.
Zook looks like the real deal offensively--anyone know anything about his arm, defense and game-calling?
The Dogfather - April 1, 2007
poor melhuse?
he's terrible to put it kindly. the guy strikes out way too often. as a catcher, you'd think he'd have better knowledge of the strike zone.
stm72 - April 1, 2007
Hello Walker's bad defense
RenoTy - April 1, 2007
Yes.
Maybe this "Walker can't play defense" drumbeat we keep hearing can be given a rest now.
Nate - April 1, 2007
even Durazo had some nice plays
Walker's career speaks for itself.
on the other hand, I'm fine with his signing. He was signed for his bat, not his glove.
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
{hehe} I'll take the bat!
.. especially considering how much the A's offense sucked wind in the first half .. {g} ..
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
1st-half of last year that is {offense was bad}
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
I agree
I'd been arguing that the A's should have at least one bench position player for his bat. That was one of my arguments to keep Durazo.
So I'm not against this signing.
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
The reason I've been so supportive
of the Todd Walker signing all along is his excellent defense at 1B.Nico - April 1, 2007
hehe
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
Who was just pitching?
OaktownRajah - April 1, 2007
Who's Petite at third?
He seems pretty decent defensively.RenoTy - April 1, 2007
Petit, rather.
RenoTy - April 1, 2007
Gregorio Petit
All D, no bat SS prospect. His bat could come around as he's still very young.

WTG suzuki!
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
I just hope it's the last
Suzuki HR before Thursday.Nico - April 1, 2007
too bad Suzuki didn't make...
the 25 man roster along with Buck. Would have had a more potent offense this year. Guess Beane just couldn't find a way to DL Kendall or dump Melhuse.
FoolshGame22 - April 1, 2007
I'm glad Kendall is handling the 2007 staff
and it would be terrible for Suzuki to twiddle his thumbs on the bench behind the iron man.
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
Good Point
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
anyone read the Jayson Stark article about Harden
I stumbled across the little tease on ESPN, not knowing that it was another of those "Signup for ESPN Insider" articles, but was intrigued by what I saw at first. Wondering if anyone wants to paraphrase it at all...
Someone gave him the idea of doing a blog on a different pitchers' line during a game, and Kennedy's was what made him think of writing. I'm guessing that the next story was about Harden...
Go A's.
catfish hunter - April 1, 2007
Really, apart from the "Bonds Bombs" ..
.. Kennedy's outing today wasn't that bad ..
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
By the Way ..
Y'all know I hate the Giants, with a passion -- but, steroids or not -- Mr. Bonds can flat-out hit! ;-(
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
he also has an excellent batting eye
which has nothing to do with PEDs
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
true, his line looks fine
we'll find out this week how he does against a major-league club, though (limited to to the 25-man roster)...
OaklandSi - April 1, 2007
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln...
...howdja like the play?
The Dogfather - April 1, 2007
Well-Mr. Bonds has made LOTs of pitchers look bad
.. including the "other barry" .. Bonds has hit some bombs off him too ..
Randy Bell - April 1, 2007
You're right--thirty times...
...he hit 2 homers in the same day against the same pitcher (can't tell whether the ABs were consecutive, however).
Our Joe's also in good company, including Hershizer, Moyer, Saberhagen, Schilling twice, Hudson twice and Mulder.
The Dogfather - April 1, 2007
Sweep!
