Open Thread: Game 161 - A's at Angels

This is so much better than, say, A's-Angels Game 161 circa 2004. Dontcha think? Anyway, tonight not only do the regulars far outweigh the scrubs in the starting lineup, but all eyes are on Danny Haren to see if his final tuneup for the ALDS looks a bit more like his start in Minnesota and a bit less like...the rest of his recent efforts. It would be good for Danny's confidence, and great for your confidence, if Haren ended the regular season on a positive note.

Unlike...Detroit's Zach Miner, who didn't make it through the 1st inning in Kansas City's 7-run surprising uprising (it's currently 7-1 KC in the 3rd). With Minnesota losing to the White-AAASox, and the Tigers spotting KC a touchdown, it's still anybody's guess whom the A's will play on Tuesday.

Tonight the A's face lefty Joe Saunders, who tamed the A's over 7 solid innings (2 ER) in his only previous start against Oakland. Here's hoping the A's can score an actual run, something they last did on Wednesday. Today's "fun fact": Here's the 411 on the starting pitchers' ERAs...They're both 4.11.

The starting lineups show that you hit one inside-the-park HR and suddenly you're a clean-up hitter. ???

Figgins batting clean-up
reminds me of two early-80s A's games:
  1. Billy Martin's famous "pick the batting order out of a hat" game.  I remember that Jeff Newman batted leadoff.
  2. In the last weekend of the season in 1982, I think, Billy let Dwayne Murphy play shortstop (he'd been an infielder early in his minor-league career) and also let Rick Langford hit.
I'll see if I can find these games at Retrosheet and report back if I find anything.
Okay, I found the KC game, Oct 3 1982
Murphy played SS, batted 2nd, went 0 for 4, and recorded 4 assists with no errors.  Lopes started in CF (he played a lot of outfield after coming to the A's), then gave way to Langford, who went 0 for 1 but recorded a put-out after moving from CF to LF).  Mike Norris pinch-ran for Tony Armas and scored a run.  Tim Conroy started (and sucked, what a surprise), but was relieved by Dave Kingman, who threw 3 scoreless innings, (3 hits, a K, no walks) and got credit for the win.  Dave Beard closed for the save, the A's winning 6-3.
And here's the hat game, June 23 1982!
A's batting order
  1. Jeff Newman, 3B
  2. Tony Armas, RF
  3. Dwayne Murphy, CF
  4. Cliff Johnson, 1B
  5. Jeff Boroughs, DH
  6. Dave Lopes, 2B
  7. Fred "Chicken" Stanley, SS
  8. Rickey Henderson, LF
  9. Mike Heath, C
Brian Kingman started and lost, 1-0, to A's-killer Larry Gura, on a 2-out single off Dave Beard by U.L. Washington to score Dennis Werth.

Here is the hat game boxscore.

Here is the Murphy at SS game.  A correction on that one -- obviously it was Brian Kingman who pitched that October game in KC, as well.  Dave didn't join the A's until 1984.  My apologies -- go ahead and call me a rat if you must.

My best guess:
They want to get Salmon as many ABs as possible, so they flip-flopped Figgins and Salmon because it would also be funny.

Get Figgy with it!

Well he is at 299 HR
Salmon, not Figgins.
It's certainly different watching the games...
when I could care less about the outcome.  Never mind the loosers in Red....they don't matter for much.  At least until the leaves turn green again.
LET'S GO OAKLAND!...
in the playoffs.
And another thing....
I certainly enjoy my "drinking" a lot more when my stomach isn't jumping 18 inches into my heart cavity.  I could really learn to enjoy a season with a huge lead in July or so.
Your stomach might appreciate it
but what about your liver? <LAXile cracks open another beer>
Hey, can't they cut a liver in half
and transplant it now?  Maybe it doesn't care so much.
I feel that unlike that last two games,
tonight's game does indeed "mean" something. Partly because of Haren's lousy outings of late (lousier, to be sure, than those of Z and E-Lo). And partly because of the shutout thing. And then there's the fact that JayPay said so in an interview. Not to mention the card stunt mojo. Let's put the hurt on the jag-holes in RED!
looks like the mets are going to be needing zito
next year

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2608613

Why, don't you know?
The Mets aren't interested in Zito....they think he's a number 3 guy at best.....or so they have been telling anyone and everyone who will listen.  He could end up being the most expensive number three guy they have ever signed.
I like that Kendall...
He didn't "feel good after taking a couple days off."
Did he say that? Kendall rules.
Grit. and. Stubble. and he's on base!
That's what Fosse said he said.
And. Ray never lies.
I'm listening to those ass-hats
Hudler and Physioc (Halos announcers). Lucky you to be up in the bay!
shoulda got
mlb.com maybe I'll give you my login... maybe not. ;)
I'm good -- but thanks
Here we go!
C'mon, bitches!
Ya , C'mon sumbitches!
kendall 1 for 1
woot.
BASES JUICED
that was fast.
Golf claps three batters running...
Come on Frank, show em the MVP form.
A RUN!!!
I almost forgot what they looked like
...a run that is.
There goes teh SEries Shutout
Good Job.

Playoff time!

Nice cut
by Jay Payton
I never thought I'd see the day
When a Moneyball player would reach double-digits in steals. Thank you, Milton.
why does perez's
mouth always look strange? like on the right side of it... much darker than the rest of his skin. And while I'm picking, why does his left elbow jerk when he's waiting for a pitch. I guess I shouldn't pick on him, he's not even playing tonight.
As far as the elbow jerk...
he may be Joe Morgan's illegitamate son.
With Tony Perez?
No, with Tont Perez's sister.
Nothing gets past us--does it.
fuck yeah! swish! 5-0
5-0! Home run swish!
It's the porn stache...
SWISH!!!
Holy Toledo!
is this game on EI?
Yeah, Swish!
And right handed, no less. Wow. What a bomb.
Well, well, well
No worries after all. We put the Rivercats on the field, we get shut out. We put the A's on the field, we score five runs on the first inning.

"In play, run-scoring play" are beautiful words to my eyes when the A's are at the bat. I thought, "Hmm, on Gameday, it looked right down the pipe... Swish could have gotten all of it..."

I bet the A's fans in Anaheim are enjoying this!

HATE
"run-scoring play". Gameday was so much better when there was the anticipation of the play unfolding. First, you saw just "put into play", then they showed what happened. Now the suspense is gone. :(
Oh, my nerves have thanked it deeply
on more than one occasion during close, late situations when the opposition is mounting a threat. "In play, out(s) recorded" is much better than waiting to see if it was a groundout or a HR.
Maybe, but
now I have to hold a piece of paper in front of my screen when a game isn't televised. I actually enjoy the suspense.
Anyone know when they're gonna try that
card stunt?
That was a GREAT AB by Swisher
Tons of off-speed pitches, then finally got a fastball that Saunders left a little too far out over the plate, and he crushed it.

Now Saunders is limping around.  I wonder if Scoscia regrets leaving him in in a meaningless game, especially with the news out of NY that Pedro needs shoulder surgery in addition to treatment for his leg injuries.  I hope Saunders isn't seriously hurt.

Maybe the A's are sending a message
to Weaver the Younger and Saunders that they intend on making them their bitches next season.  Let's hope so.
Saunders
He's consistently terrible when he doesn't get five days rest.  If this persists into next season the entire league is going to make him their bitch.
It's
Quiet tonight here....everyone must be at the game! Lets Go Oak-Land
Yeah....a good thing too...
cause tonight I am poisoning my liver instead of chewing on it.

At any moment my posts may cease.  Most likely because I have passed out.

What
What's your poison for the night....i gotta get out and get some liquor to join you.
Pre-packaged Margarita's...
and they're really damn good.
You better hurry up....
cause I don't think I'm gonna be around long...lol
haha
Got a handle of jack daniels to last me for a few games!!
Mwahahaaha.
We're in the pen already.

I like this.

SWEET!
LET'S GO OAKLAND!

And it's a shame to hear about Perez.

;)

Gregg's motion from the stretch
looks exactly like a knuckleballer's.  But he doesn't throw a knuckler, does he?  It's odd.
Okay, Danny
Don't suck.
Uh.....
Daniel!
Salmon

steaks. Anderson... Not so much.
Wild or farmed?
retired.
I love this commercial...
the one with "gorman" up to bat....I think it's the slingbox commercial.  That could so be me.
That damn commercial
has permeated my brain and resurfaces far too frequently, upon where I must play the entire commercial out in my head or risk insanity. Kind of like Cartman and Come Sail Away.
LOL..
My wife has actually gotten pissed because at a wedding I snuck into the "clubhouse" at a golf course to watch the A's.  I had a HELL of a time trying to "explain" myself.  And women wonder why guys lie.  Because we HAVE to.  Dammit.
Is it just me...
or does Haren look eerily similar to Slingblade tonight?
Warriors
I think he looks like one of they baseball gang members from the movie "Warriors".  He has that wavy 70's hair.
The Baseball Furies
I just realized...
Milton's gone a whole season without being cased by the cops.
Well...
the season doesn't technically end until tomorrow, right?
you jinxed it!
he'll be hauled in for something after the game now!
I meant chased
Danny has not updated his blog
Since the beginning of August.

Bitch.

Yeah, really.
Danny, get back on the computer! ... once you're done winning a championship for us, that is.
Meh.
Danny looking shaky again thus far.
MLB Tv
OK, I give you a choice:

1.) Root canal with no anesthetic
2.) Listening to 162 games of the Angels announcers

Who are these schmucks?

Re: Mlb tv
I have just turned off sound and am going to blast the German Requiem. That is much better.
Dammit, Daniel
Pitch like you want it.
I fell asleep before the bottom of the first
and just woke up.

Hot damn, these boys can hit when I'm not watching.

Hes simply not the same pitcher
the last month or so that he was the first four and a half months.

I hope we're up 2 to 1 when his turn comes around in game Four

Korach
is bustin' me up.
ken korach on tv
He's not used to not having to call plays. "you wanna call that kuip?" Funny.
boo ya!
chavez. thats how you do it salmon.
CHAVY!
You da man, baby boy! ;)
Yeah right, playoffs a crap shoot.
That's always a good excuse.
Chavez Goes Deep
Good to see - 6-2 A's. Easy swing over the center field fence on a very low pitch.
Oh man,
"I guarantee it."
DID YOU SEE WHEN PAYTON
THREW SOME BALLS TO PEOPLE IN LEFT FIELD? I THOUGHT I SAW HIM THROW IT TO A'S FAN
balls that had gone foul
yeah
It was an A's fan with a cap on. I saw it.
mentioned
because i thought some ANers said they were sitting there
LOL!
BEACHBALL!
i think it was an inning or so ago sorry
just got on
Wow...it's only the 3rd inning...
and I'm officially under the influence.  Come on Detroit...I so want you to win.
It's Saturday night...
and where are your children?
i was with one of my children
and his child until about 2 hours ago. that child is the one that got my husband and i to be A'fans years ago.im happy he did.
The Kendall .300 watch update
With a 1 for 7 the last two nights it's looking bleak.  He needs a minimum of 4 more hits to get to .300.
Danny...
Buckle down, for God's sake. This is a playoff tuneup. I love you, but the shakiness is irritating. Big-time.
Regarding the Angels running
themselves into outs, and out of runs, I rest my case.
You don't think it's smart
to get thrown out by 8 feet at 2nd with no outs and down by 4 runs?
when are the people
doing the card stuff. not tv tomorrow so i will miss it.
it will be tongiht
but i don't know when. Don't worry if you miss it, I'm certain there will be a few posts here tomorrow with pictures....
Separated at birth...
Vince Controneo and Michael Eisner.
good one
another seperated at birth
there's a guy on a team we played but cant remember his name but he looked just like eric byrnes
Milton Bradley
Broken bat - again. Noted he probably leads the league in that category...
Vince Contronio radio guy on TV now.
He shoud get Bobby Kielty as the donner for a new hair transplant.
Circa 2002... ouch.
There's Vince at the Hair Club For Men.
hmmm...
Vince Montoneo

Makes Bill King sound like Jesus Christ!
Well...
I can say that I've never seen them both at the same time. Have any of you? It cannot be determined that they're different people.
Yeah...Bill, Jesus, and Elvis!
One and the same...
Ahh, come on, Jesus spoke in parables
How is Heaven, anyhow, Bill?  I'll ask you on my oiji board.
Still here on earth Salvie
still on earth.

Still like those Bay Area Chicks?

No, actually I'm gay.
Remeber when  "gay" meant "happy."
And I'm drinking Margarita's
that are called Salvatore's.  What's it all mean?  Other than me being quite possibly drunk.
Tim Salmon at 299...
We should be rooting for this guy as an individual - period. Dale Murphy finished his career at 398 and there couldn't have been a better gentleman in baseball. I see nothing wrong with Salmon getting a good pitch to hit today or tomorrow.
Yeah--what the hell...
I agree with you. It would be cool for him
to get 300. But I would also like to see the guy get stranded at 299. It's just one of those things -- maybe this pic from Thursday will help you understand my ambivalence:
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I just got in.
Did they show the card stunts?
i havent seen them yet
wouldnt that be a bummer if tomorrow because there's no tv coverage
Watch KICU - 7th inning
Can't confirm card stunts, but AN will be live from Anaheim.
its funny
they dont know where they are going to be playing yet.
7th Inning - AN Group to Be Featured on KICU
This just in from BBG... the AN contingent will be featured on KICU in the 7th inning! She says they are in front of a group of older Angels fans who are rude, and have thrown stuff at them, etc. Great to hear the Anaheim crazies aren't letting us down.

Go turn on KICU and watch for them in the 7th!!!

thank you
i watching game while im typing
Oh, goodie!
You guys get to watch ANers doing card stunts and I get Phys and Rex.  BOOOO!
any possibility of anyone capturing this
for those without KICU?
I'm on it.
You can count on me for guerilla video capturing!
I just put a disc in the DVD recorder.
I won't have the whole game, but from the mid 6th and on. lol
You rule, too!
Morons throwing stuff...
Wonder where Security is?
oaklands
some times isnt any better
Freakin' Tiger Chokers!
Can't they win a game against the Royals?!!?!!
Hi Bruce...
Fortunately, "Salvatore's" my middle  name."
sounds like
lets go oakland
At what point
does Scutaro surpass Kendall for the dubious honor of A's Player Most Likely To GIDP?

Sure seems like he's busted out a lot of them this year.

until
last couple of days kendall hasnt been doing very many gidp
Beautiful catch by Swish!
wow didnt know nic
was in left field. glad he caught that
I think he just moved
after milton left.
Tigers are horrible chokers.
They can't beat the Freakin' Royals with a chance to win the division.  F you Jim Leyland.
Bonderman starting tomorrow
According to Tigers radio announcers.  They were hoping to avoid using him until the playoffs.
Maybe Bondo can help out his old homies...
Yes, thanks again Billy fot trading Bonderman...
Since it wasn't your choice to draft the high schooler--get rid of him first good chance.
Is someone paying you
to start random arguments here about Billy Beane?  It's starting to get really weird...
No--man. I'm self motivated.
By what?
Do you really think Beane is an idiot?  Do you just want to see more arguing/flaming around here and think this is the easiest way to do it?  Something else?
Loosen up--it's only fricken baseball.
Every public figure's fair game. We all have our own opinions.   BB's done a lot of thing's right and some things not so right
That doesn't answer my question
but whatever.
No. Are you kidding? Beane's far from an idiot.
The man's built up quite a name and reputation.
An example of an idiot would be the guy on AN who recently said he wanted to shoot Ken Macha. Wouldn't  we  all agree?
Hey man, loosen up
Ted Lilly was awesome in 2003!

If it wasn't for Stoned Byrnes and Miggy Miscue...

Yeah--I hear you.
At least two sides to every story.
They're doing card stunts now...
No TV coverage yet. KICU cut from commercial with Jimenez batting - after they did it. Keep watching and we'll see if they get covered.

(amendment - annoying Angels fans in front of ANers, not the other way around. Reminds me why I stopped being a journalist)

i think my dinner just came "Up Stream."
Ha! I guess you're getting the SoCal feed.
doing recaps
Grrr...
<shoots KICU>

BBG called - "Did you see anything?"

I back up TiVo to make sure I didn't miss anything, like a moron.

I hear in the background (on the phone)... "Let's do it again!"

Ummm... KICU?

bummer didnt get to see it
Yet to come?
Vee Zhall Zee.
Haren gone after 78 pitches
Nice little outing, although still prone to the long ball.  Need to throw the splitter in the dirt more.
lets do a
DP against angels now
I love seeing Melhuse at 3rd
He's like an adult among the kids. Showing them how it's done.
Quite adorable.
Old Man Melhuse chillin' at 3B, lookin' like a pro. :-)
Yep.
Scoot's ready for the postseason.
I don't care how low Kennedy's ERA is
Seems as if a lot of that was pinned on other guys when he allowed their baserunners to score. He still makes me nervous.
Doesn't Kennedy have some ridiculously
good numbers regarding NOT allowing inherited runners to score?

If I'm dreaming, just ignore me, 'cause I'm drunk.

But I swear I remember hearing that.

I don't know, but I think I remember
a few early-season escapades where he kept letting inherited runners score.

And now he's got the bases loaded. Gulp. I know it's meaningless, but I'd really like to split this Anaheim series.

Me too.
But I swear that Kennedy hasn't allowed an inherited runner to score in awhile.  Like, since he got off his eight year stint on the DL.

yay for pinot grigio! :)

Scoot getting the hang of things at SS!
scoot
way to stop it
royals 9 detroit 6
Chone at clean-up
Physioc says that Scoscia promised he'd bat Figgins 4th today if Figgins got a bunt hit on Friday.
Well, Figgins *did* hit a homer yesterday.
Want your cleaunup guy to have power.
I just saw the replay of that "homer"
That should have been a double and 2 fielding errors by Bocachica, not a homer.  The official scorer must have eaten some bad salmon.
How drunk is Halsey?
He seems a little out of it in the bullpen.
mr kennedy please
get third out
wooooo hooo
thank you
Ask and ye shall receive!
i remember
thats when i first heard about  AN
whoops should have been below another post
Waiting for the AN feature...
Reminds me of that game where I knew the ANtics were going to be on TV, and awaiting every commercial timeout. Honestly when it was playing, I was really nervous, like when you have to speak in public.

And... I've still got that game on TiVo a year later. It may never be deleted. :-)

Christy reports...
AN was definitely on Angels TV, even if KICU didn't pick up the slack.
KICU AN coverage
can we email KICU and have them show our fellow AN'ers?
will kicu
be carrying any more A's games? tomorrow no tv coverage
nope
playoffs are elsewhere (ESPN? ABC Family? Random other channels I don't get?)
I didn't see it. And I'm suffering through
Rex Hudler interviewing Mrs. Tim Salmon, aka "The Queen Fish," and considering hurting myself because of it.
Bored between innings (and mildly drunk) joke:
Before Tommy John had "Tommy John Surgery," what did they call that medical procedure?
i thought he was the first one
to have the procedure.
Wrong. The answer is:
"surgery." (Get it?)
No it had been performed before....
but I think he was the first famous person to have it done.

My dad was telling me about this just  few days ago and I forgot the name!

How many chances to clinch do the Tigers
need anyway.

Bunch of chokers.

well, if bonderman is pitching tomorrow
and they win, that will throw their rotation off a little, which 'ain't a bad thing for us.
AN on TV now with card stunts!
Live now on KICU!
oh no turned my head
I wasn't looking! ahhh
was it when
everyone was shouting
AN is on TV
woo hoo
I got it
I'll upload now.
Fosse says...
"They're making a good effort. I think they want it to say A's."

Card stunts - very cute.

tough to see
in the dark. too bad there wasn't a day game today.
Jeremy BROWN!
1st hit!
Jeremy Brown
1st career major league base hit!
Thank you Chone!
Congrats on your first hit, Brown!!
kendall
looked like a proud daddy when they threw browns baseball back into dugout
Awww.
Kendall clapping.

I feel like Melhuse and Brown should be friends.

Yay AN!!
GREEN...

And GOLD!!

Yeah AN!!

And way to go Jeremy!!

First MLB hit for
Levi's
Angels tv showing the "King Fish"
take another curtain call. No AN! (Shocker)
congrats Mr. Brown.
Grimsley named names
Clemens, Pettite, Tejada, Roberts, Gibbons.
when?
just recently?
AP is just reporting it
but its from old testimony ... someone leaked a copy without the names blacked out.
You know what?
I'm sorry to insult anybody here, but here's my opinion: Steroids is the modern day Salem Witch-hunts.

You confess to the crime, then you get your revenge by naming the other people. Taking steroids in one time, being a witch in another.

Like I said, I'm sorry if that's just the opinion of a really tired girl who's sick of steroids and is really upset with the whole scandal and the repercussions. There you have it.

i agree
WITCH!!!!!
Burn her!!!!!!!
You're going to have to try harder than that
if you want to insult someone ;-)

And yes, the whole thing is riven with sanctimonious blathering and cant.

Hell...
I just don't know what gets people's goats.

Whatever. It says Salem witch-hunts to me.

"don't know what gets people's goats"
That would be Nico.
or the
chupacabra.....
No insult....and I agree.
I am tired of people exorting the right of Fairnu-Wada to remain silent while another man goes to jail for the same damn thing.  If it's enough to send Anderson to prison, then it's by damn enough to send those guys to prison.  I for one am tired of this crap.  It's become a witch hunt of the highest order with the same damn MF's who remained silent now wishing to capitlize on the aftermath by naming names and reporting all that they should have done in the first f*** place...that is, if they are the journalists the claim to be.   F** the whole bunch.
gaudin pitching
Gaudin sure walks
a hell of a lot of guys.
kicu
showed some a's fan(3 women) one looked familar but not sure of name from pictures on here
Yes, I believe the lady in the middle
is the President of the Boosters or part of the Boosters.  The lady on the right was the person who won one of the Chevy cars
Card Stunt
That is hilarious!
Thanks!
Angels Just Want Their Cake
And Have It Too.

A's got the presents though.

LOL!
"Napoli, who runs pretty well for a big guy..."
CAN I SAY IT
WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE
You've got to work that exclamation mark!!!!!
Anaheim Does Make Good Noise
Although on this end it sounds like prepubescent screaming.
IT DOES
And its not just Scioscia this time.
Did Gaudin just pitch
himself off the postseason roster?
No, but Ron Flores did
Two walks...
Both came around to score. (No thanks to Flores, but still).

Me no likey. Gaudin is a total crapshoot -- brilliant one day, totally fallible the next.

they mentioned
sauerbeck WASNT on it he he
Flores is bad.
Flores
had nothing working for him. No control whatsoever. :(
I want to like Flores
but he makes it almost impossible.
Recently
I was sitting a few rows back from Jeremy Brown as he warmed guys up in the pen.  He tossed the ball to a young kid in the row in front of me, and it was fun explaining to him that this was a player, not just an A's worker (no offense Buckley).  The kid was thus even more thrilled ("Really?!? Wow~!!), so it made seeing Brown get his first ML hit just now a bit more fulfilling for me.
awwwww
that was a good story
DON'T SCREW THIS UP!!
poop
pitching staff has lost strike zone
HELP!
Oh Poppycock.
Sometimes you need the bases loaded to get in the zone...
Will Kirk Saarloos' command
please report to the pitcher's mound in Angel Stadium, Anaheim...

Thanks...

Angels Can't Trade Places
With the A's.

It's all good.

WE'RE ALL GOING TO...
the playoffs, bitches!
WE KNOW
just sad to see them losing dont like habit they are in.
We've got the division sewn up and all that
but it's somewhat disturbing, seeing how much our bullpen (outside the Terrible Troika, which at times is just Duke) sucks.
these are scarily
balk worthy
Well, this stinks.
Welp
I guess Haren wasn't too bad tonight. The pen looked rather wobbly though. :o|
This isn't the pen
This is a bunch of guys who will never pitch in the playoffs--except for Kennedy and maybe Gaudin.
Just Getting the Losing
Out of the system by putting some in the system.

Like a vaccine.

HEY
good way to look at it. get it all out of our system
Value of this game (I hope)
Realizing that Kirk Saarloos has no value on the playoff roster. We don't owe him that. He gets a very good salary already. If we're doing everything we can to win, he doesn't belong there.
I don't understand
why people have a beef with Saarloos. He's a serviceable ground-ball pitcher, the kind you want in the game in a DP situation.
Because he's not very good
Because a bunch of other pitchers are better than he is. Because I want the A's to win.
Because he is lousy
Batters are hitting over .300 against him and he walks as many batters as he strikes out. He is not good.
Looking beyond this series...
Is anybody else not so comfortable with Zito as our #1 starter? I can't help but feel we'll be on the wrong side of the margin at the end of the contest. Maybe not 15-2 bad, but still, he doesn't fill me with the confidence I'd hope to get if say... Harden was #1.

This probably stems from seeing him lit up at the Coliseum in all those day games where the curve ball didn't do it's thang.

Harden should be #1
But who the hell is going to have the guts to do that given that the guy has pitched so little.

I don't care the order of guys. If it's Detroit, we should beat them. They haven't been very good for a long time. And we've been winning two out of every three since the break.

If we don't beat the Tigers, we deserve nothing.

Now if we draw the Twins, well can't blame anyone for losing to Santana in Minnesota.

I hate the Angels.
i love
Southwest commercials
keep in mind:
they may win, but there's nothing to be won...
i hate
k-rod
dont help him
break record
What Record?
Nobody cared when Hoffman broke that Save record.
A's will play
Only 8 innings on the field.

So there!

come on milhouse
hit a homer like you have done
Did Physioc really just say, "Two of the
best breaking balls you'll ever see in this game!"
Yeah
They were so good that they fooled the ump into thinking they were strikes.
lets go nick
Swisher will definitely be swinging for t
the fences here.

Need Kielty to pinch hit for Scutaro...

Sick of watching these stupid
meaningless games. What a waste of time watching Flores and Saarloos pitch with the game on the line.
k-rod
looks like he going to fall down everytime
and sometimes he does.
It's similar to Bob Gibson.
lol
i was at that game marco lets go
K-Fraud thinks he just won the M'fing
World Baseball Classic! It's two outs, and your're headed back to the goggle factory!
lol
Watch this idiot
celebrate like he's just won the fucking world series.

What a dumbass.

he he
He's a blown rotator cuff just
waiting to happen, with those ugly mechanics.
oh god
you promise?!? pretty pleeeese!
That son of a gun K-rod can fire.
So,...
will K-Rod celebrate the save like the final out of the WS as usual?
memo
adam melhuse sucks ass.

that is all.

Yeah there are certain guys
you just don't want to see.
Come on K-Rod
This is for the fucking pennant. Win this and the Angels are sure to have no better a chance than they did yesterday.
fricken
 hate K-rod
K-Rod is an ugly bastard
He can have his #47. We don't want it.
Gay-rod jus won
them the world series
OH. MY. GOD. K-Fraud must really love
GOLF. Good night, y'all!
Let me just say
That I'm really, really glad that we sewed up the division before we came here.

Otherwise, this would have topped 'em all in terms of suicide-inducing collapses. <sigh>

Harden's going tomorrow. Let's go OAKLAND! Beat the O.C. sons of bitches in the last regular season game before we head to the playoffs and they head to the golf course!

I wish Windsor were pitching...
Let the Angels take all 4, start Harden in game 1, Zito game 2, Loaiza 3, and Haren 4 vs. Detroit. Get some 'nads, Macha. :-)
what makes you think that's macha's decision?
i agree it should be harden, but i see no evidence that macha is making the call on that one.
Nor do I...
But let's talk crap about him because he's not here. :-)
Dude relax.
All this proves is that the Angels can beat the Rivercats.  I could have told you that before the sries even started...
Hilarious and accurate
Oh, I know
I'm not that worried. It's just that I really don't want to get swept in Wahnaheim and have all the experts crow about how we're backing into the playoffs and are likely to make another Round 1 exit again.
that's ridiculous
if we hadn't clinched yet, we wouldn't be playing these games the way we are.
we'd have our best players in the game (not gaudin, flores, saarloos, melhuse, bocachica, brown, jimenez, etc.), and haren would throw over 78 pitches.
Like I said
I know. It's more of an emotional thing. I don't want to get swept in 4. Even if it means absolutely crap-all about the ALDS.
well, you could try to synchronize
what you know with what you write...
Or I could just say
Let's go Oak-land!
Incredible
What a jackass.
Angels, drinking
a lot of AAA champagne, with clutch hits off Ron Flores and Saarloos.

Oh well, its their world series.  Let em have it.

now THATS funny!!!
Is K-Rod retarded?
No really. Does he have an IQ of like 75?

I'm guessing there's never been a reaction like that in a game like that in the history of baseball--or frankly in the history of professional sports.

Probably not in baseball
In football, though, I seem to recall some guys doing a big end zone number when they score to put their team down by 28.

A selfish, classless jerk. I hope Erstad is healthy enough to bust him in the mouth.

K-Rod
Makes me sick!!
his life must be sad
seeing his reactions
Big whoop
So we know the Angels can beat the Rivercats.

Macha wasn't managing to win tonight at all.

Well, he was trying to win
just not with his best pitchers.
he was smart and wanted
his players healthy for games that mean something
Okay...since I don't have TV
What did K-Rod do...?
After the Scutaro K...
He pumped his fist, turned around, back to home plate, and dropped to his knees with arms aloft, head back and yelled at the sky, with his fists clenched and arms straining... as if he'd either won the World Series, or passed a fifty-pound gallstone shaped like the World Series trophy.
HAHAHA!
ouch!
good one
i had gallstones 40 little bit omg the pain
maybe a kidney stone too
I had gallstones...
this guy has no idea.

I for one loved this game.  We are so going beyond the first round.  I know it.  Bank on it.  And never mind that I'm totally f****ing drunk.

He clinched his fists,
raised his arms, looked up toward the heavens, and likely screamed so loudly in celebration that they heard it on Splash Mountain and the Matterhorn.

That's what he did.

Jackass.
It figures.
what he always does. look weird
(DIDNT WANT to say retarded and insult people) he pumps his arms. holds them high and looks up in sky. all with weird looking goggles
After he K'd Scutaro
he turned and screamed like his fastball had just cured cancer, ended world famine, and discovered all of Euripedes' lost plays.
his goggles make
him look like he should be on a swim team instead of baseball
So beyond Annoyed
That tomorrows game is not on TV. Last regular season game, it should be LAW that it is on TV. Totally LAME! And the second game that Rich is pitching that I won't get to see. Very sad!

But then again, we always seem to do amazing things when we aren't on TV! So here's hoping for a JK Home Run!!

i wrote several
emails months ago to kicu and oakland a's. now that it doesnt mean anything i think they could care less
I assume it's because they don't want
to compete with NFL on t.v., right?
yep
Not so gooda game sumbitches
Okay THAT was funny!
My wife and I are sitting here laughing about your'e comment, Salvatore! I just can't wait for Tuesday! If the Twins and Tigers lose we play the Tigers. Let's go Tigers! C'mon Tuesday! Let's Go Oakland! Screw Frankie stupid K-Rod! I'm so so sick of him!
Get over yourselves, people
So K-Rod is passionate when he wins.  So what?  Nothing wrong with that.
whats up with
the cheeeezey A's fantasy camp commercial? "hey guys... whats YOUR fantasy?"
i thought so too
sounded like the porn channel. whoops not that i watch that channel he he
