3-1 A's going to the bottom of the 4th, after a top half that probably left both teams happy--the A's retaking the lead and Washburn avoiding the dreaded "crooked number"...
That first curve ball from zito at like the second pitch of a game was a dead obvious strike. After that, he had to stay consistent.
In fact I think thats what a lot of umpires do - they just go with the flow of their mistakes, to try to be consistent. Same with refs in the NBA, sometimes a slap on the hand is a foul, and sometimes an elbow to the face isn't.
Don't be too hard on Barry. He's might not have his best stuff, but he's more or less holding it down. He should be able to go six, right? (cross fingers)
but that was the most overrated Cy Young ever given. That year was also a fluke. And I'm going to cut the fat jokes and just say, "he's prone to injury" in the exact opposite way Hudson is prone to injuries.
Sexson looked like he'd been sent to dunce jail after he just made that out because of the netting. That's one of the funniest shots in sports...a player barking at himself from behind the dugout net.
That was funny! Ray Fosse said "For every strikeout, Barry Zito donates to Strikeouts for Troops, Richie Sexson should donate for every time he strikes out". HA!
if they work with perry, i really think chavez and swisher can increase the number of times they swing at sliders low and away, and make up for the loss of crosby...
was announcers saying about zito saying why didnt someone tell me before now and they showed him walking out of area where other players were sitting in dugouts
Maybe someone can answer, why is it that Swish isnt getting the full rest of a night off that he needs?? what is the point of playing him for and inning or 2?? I understand if there is an injury, but come on.....
Kotsay does an okay job most of the time, but when the game is winnable but not a sure thing, bring in the real defensive first baseman to make sure. A player who is out of position is probably more likely to make an error when it's important.
A first-base closer, if you will. He's not in there to bat.
I've been organizing AN Day Anaheim tonight over PayPal, and it looks like there's a very real possiblity we will have 50 people at Thursday's game, and 50 more people on Sunday's game.
I loved seeing how he is the big star in Venezuela. I can't tell you how many billboards I saw and commercials with Marco selling all kinds of stuff...it was fun.

question....
Maybe someone can answer, why is it that Swish isnt getting the full rest of a night off that he needs?? what is the point of playing him for and inning or 2?? I understand if there is an injury, but come on.....rocketgirl - August 4, 2006
I think I just figured it out
Kotsay does an okay job most of the time, but when the game is winnable but not a sure thing, bring in the real defensive first baseman to make sure. A player who is out of position is probably more likely to make an error when it's important.A first-base closer, if you will. He's not in there to bat.
GlassHeart - August 4, 2006
Hmmmm...that was less than fun.
baseballgirl - August 4, 2006
ugh
ak_A - August 4, 2006

Yay!0R0H0E - August 4, 2006
Okay side note...
I've been organizing AN Day Anaheim tonight over PayPal, and it looks like there's a very real possiblity we will have 50 people at Thursday's game, and 50 more people on Sunday's game. That's slightly crazy.
That's four hundred miles from the Coliseum!
baseballgirl - August 4, 2006

me too
he's been very valuable these past three years.I loved seeing how he is the big star in Venezuela. I can't tell you how many billboards I saw and commercials with Marco selling all kinds of stuff...it was fun.
OaklandSi - August 4, 2006
based on his performance in one game?
a lot of people owe kendall and loaiza apologies as well, then...xbhaskarx - August 4, 2006
no, based on his performance
filling in for injured players and having a good number of good games over the past three years.C'mon, give us Scutaro fans a little credit.
OaklandSi - August 4, 2006
his offensive numbers would be embarrassing
if they weren't just about the same as every other middle infielder we have. and in that sense, he's filled in well for injured players.xbhaskarx - August 4, 2006
I've never seen him as
the #1 starter, so for me he hasn't been as disappointing as Crosby and (to a lesser extent) Ellis.OaklandSi - August 4, 2006
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I LOVE YOU SCUTARO!!!... AND A's!!TrizzleNizzle510 - August 4, 2006
