I thought Lackey
Was Hillbilly Jim?
"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan (sp)?
Hoooooooooooooo!
hahah
good times
Too Bad
We couldnt use the Ultimate Warrior as a Pinch Runner...
Or...
get Papa Shango to cast a voodoo spell on the Angels' bullpen.
Going a little more recent
I like Jason "The Rock" Kendall giving the Rock Bottom to "Triple H" Lackey
I remember this interview
on players at-bat music back in 2000, and Jason was using the Road Dogs theme from the WWE because he was such a huge fan.
it's all about...
my fantasy team's name: koko b. ware

went with that because "kamala, the ugandan headhunter" wouldn't fit.

Acutally Blez
Wrestlemania 7 would was Hogan Vs Sargent Slaughter, When Slaughter was a bad guy and wore the Iraqi Military Uniforme
XII = 12
Oh Yea
Im Hella dumb...lol
Perfect example why...
I get my current events from wrestling.
yay
good inning for street
Nice job Huston
Now, do we expect that's it, for this first time back?  Or will we see him in the 8th?  He threw 13 pitches.
Can we please get 12 QUICK outs
in this game without ANY drama?  Thanks.
I have to go soon and I won't be able to pay any attention in class if I don't know what the score is.
kendall and sling blade lackey
that was really unacceptable behavior on kendall's part, picking on the big retarded kid.  mmmmm hmmmm
extra work for huston
I think Huston wants the extra innings in order to bring has ERA down, otherwise it will take until July to bring it down to a respectable number. I say as long as he keeps getting outs, leave him in until he hits 45 pitches.
35 maybe...not 45
Kennedy for the 8th i assume
then Duchscherer for the 9th
that seems like the only moves left for Macha
I must point out
Oaktoon...you are snitching for that last comment in the other thread. If you are sensing bad things...keep them to yourself. I am filled with confidence.
OK, I'm going on the record here
Street comes out for the 8th.

The key question is Anderson.

If Street allows the first two guys to get on, I think you have to make the move to Kennedy and then have Duke ready for Vlad and Salmon, even if it means Gaudin for the 9th.

If there's only one baserunner and one out, you take your chances with Anderson.

If Guerrero comes up with 2 on and 1 out, you go to Duke right then.

2 out and 1 on keep Street and save duke for Salmon if necessaery or the 9th.

But 2 insurance runs would be nice.

subtract 1 baserunner from each scenario?
We're only up 1. A 3-R HR isn't really any more damaging than a 2-R HR.
Hopfully Thomas
IS just Having a Really Slow start, and In July or August he goes on a Devastating Tear and hit like 20 Hrs...
radio
says Duke warming in the pen, could he pitch the 8th?
he's getting ready for Vlad
see my comment above.
Crapola
He would have broke the .200 mark on that one.  Come on Big Frank!
anybody remember
when payton used to hit dingers
Yeah...
<Reminiscing>
I sure do
He really adds no positive element to our offensive philosophy if he isn't going yard.
Bonds is closer to Babe
He hit 712 today, but the Gnats are down 5-3
i hate him
I really want to hear from the ...
... folks who were in favor of coming down hard on Delmon Young, but who are tickled pink by Kendall's mound-charge.

Any game I've ever played in, in any sport, resorting to physical violence in retaliation to even the worst verbal taunting is an absolute no-no.

I assume
That you don't watch Sharks games.
Oooh... Sharkies!
OK, I'll give you hockey
But still -- even though fights are common, they're technically against the rules.
Retaliation is a good thing!
In Hockey and Baseball there is fear of retaliation.

You can get a fastball in the ear if you watch your Home Run in baseball, or a fist in your mouth for taunting in Hockey.

That is why you don't see as many jackasses in those two sports as you do in Football and Basketball.

I prefer fiduciary retaliation
You hit someone, you sit your ass down for an unpaid suspension.
Well that is great if you hit someone
but what about stopping guys from acting like jackasses, taunting, and talking shit.

What do you do about them??

If there is no fear of retaliation, we are going to have baseball players with sharpies in thier socks dancing around like morons!

what?!?
Are you seriously saying that if someone says something to you that you don't like, it's your right to physically assault them?

Should I be contacting a judge for a restraining order on you?

And you're also saying that if only someone had physically attacked Terrell Owens, he wouldn't have had the temerity to put a Sharpie in his sock?

You're psychotic.

Damn man!
I though we were just discussing a disagreement.  You don't have to keep being such and ass!!

And yes, if the next time Terrel went across the middle he got his head taken off by a middle linebacker even though the ball was nowhere near him he would think twice about celebrating like a dumbass!

Why do you think players don't watch thier home run balls??

Becuase if they do they will get a fastball in the ear thier next time up.

OK, here's the thing ...
... I'd agree with you 100% if Lackey had demonstrably thrown at Kendall -- especially at his head or behind him.

But he was just jawing at Kendall. Kendall took the bait, and overreacted. That's an unwritten rule, as well.

Fair enough!
I agree that it was an overreaction.

Lackey should shut his mouth, he can't be up there talking trash to opposing batters.

Jason, should have said something to him.  Jason had every right to talk some shit back to him, and let him know that he wasn't going to stand for it.

Maybe the benches would have cleared and there would have been some chest bumping, but he shouldn't have tackled him.

However I still think it was fun to watch, sorry, but I do!

That was against the umps...
...I think it's different with the players. I honestly think I'm just excited to see some fire from this normally very placid team.
Did Kendall have a bat?
Even if Kendall had a bat...
it wasn't like he was going to hurt anyone with it. :)
Well he would probably make contact.
But, I am guessing it wouldn't hurt very much.
That is friggin' HILARIOUS
I'm still laughing about this and hoping that no one comes in my office and asks me why.  I'm picturing a Charmin-like bat and Kendall using all of his might to hurt Lackey.
did Lackey PHYSICALLY ATTACK HIM?
My god, all you people are utterly deranged sociopaths.

Go ahead: report me to the CGV for that, you unprovoked-violence-loving goons. That'd be consistent of you.

Slightly different when going after ref/ump
Those guys are strictly off limits unless they physically start it.
The two things
ARE NOT EVEN REMOTLY RELATED!

They are not even in the same ballpark!! (god I hate myslef for typing that)

Yeah
Going after a pitcher who said something and going after an ump are totally different. Not even to mention the fact that Kendall kicked Lakcey's ass without a bat
Didn't see the mound-charge.
But there's an obvious difference between going after a pitcher with your fists and going after an ump. With a bat. To the chest.
Uh, sure ...
... there's potential room for misinterpretation of the bat-toss (though I don't see it); there's no room for misinterpretation of the mound-charge.

I think Kendall should be suspended 20 games.

Your crazy!
A mound charge is part of the game.  Fear of retaliation keeps everyone in thier place.
and you're an illiterate thug
WOW!!
Really, That hurt.  You know since I am on a blog and all, I must be really illiterate.
that wasn't retaliation, it was escalation
If Kendall can't take the truth -- that he's a lousy hitter whose only chance for an RBI in that situation was to milk an HBP off of an elbow armor that's not a lot different from the one that most people castigate Bonds for wearing -- then he's a really, really small turd of a man.
Unwritten rules
This is one of those that all ex-players talk about.  Lackey definitely "talked the talk" so he must "walk the walk."  I wish this stuff didn't exist in baseball but it's been around a lot longer than you and I.

The photo appears as if Lackey is ready to use his fist, while Mathis clearly has the situation handled anyway.

I guess we just disagree.
I for one don't think it is ok for the opposing pitcher to talk shit to the batters while he is throwing a ball 90 MPH.

If Lackey is allowed to shit talk to opposing team while he pitches then where will it end.

Lackey should shut his mouth and pitch.  If he wants to talk shit then he should be prepared to defend himself.

Kendall being suspended for a while...
...would probably help, no?
<points finger to nose>
All things considered, the longer Kendall doesn't play, the better the A's offensive output.
Sigh.
Mound charge = part of the game for a huundred years.
Ump beating = not a part of the game, ever.

Mound charge (with fists) = worst damage possible, busted nose.
Ump beating (with bat) = worst damage possible, death.

Mound charge - useful for: Intimidation of opposing pitcher, getting teammates roused.
Ump beating - useful for: Intimidation of ump, getting suspended indefinitely.

Let me know if I can explain anything else obvious to you.

violence = OK when "my guy" does it
Where'd you read that?
Not what I said at all.

If you really want to truncate it, violence is okay when it's mano et mano, involving fists and headlocks, not bats, and when neither of the combatants feels like backing down.

In that case, let 'em fight, hockey style.

Now, if Lackey hadn't wanted to keep it going, then I'd say Kendall should have stayed put. But Lackey wanted a reaction.

And he got one.

... and when it's essentially unprovoked
"Lackey wanted a reaction"? Well, you obviously "wanted a reaction" from me, so should I come physically assault you?

No.

My initial point was, I thought, obviously made on general principles. I apologize for imputing views to you that you didn't specifically express and for presuming that my point was adequately made (when it obviously was not ... my point. Made, that is. Adequately.).

But I can't see any moral justification for what Kendall did.

If you had just thrown a baseball at me..
and then started jawing, yeah, I think there'd be response.

Thankfully, monkeys don't throw baseballs.

Except this one:

If Kendall had attacked the ump maybe, but
Lackey is a player, not an authority figure.  I don't condone what Jason did, but it is nowhere as bad as Young.  If he had thrown it at the catcher, it still wouldn't have been as bad.  Just like if you were at school, and had a fight in the lunchroom, you wouldn't get in as much trouble as of you slugged your Home Room teacher
I will now make sure to buckle my seatbelt!!
because Mike Scocia just told me too!
Duke on
to pitch the 8th
WHO THE HELL
pitches the ninth? Duke for two innings? Calero and Street were underused IMO.
Forward thinking
Now... you CAN complain if we end up with a loss in the 9th!
Kennedy?
Scary thought
Did Yan really pitch the 8th
Didn't he start yesterday? What the hell is with that? If he really did pitch, how did we go down so easily? Little help.
Carrasco started yesterday.
If I remember correctly.
Yes, and Yan pitched
in the 8th, I believe.
Thank you. My mistake.
If we can just get through this inning
And the 9th inning...
:)
OK-- this is a mistake
Using Duke in the 8th. I would have kept Street in.

Who's going in the 9th? What if Duke gets in trouble like the Detroit game??

Like I said
Brilliant Move.

And kudos to Kendall to.

Seriously, I would have wanted Duke to pitch to Guerrero. I jsut didn't want him to start the inning.

My problem with this move is Duke has now used up nearly 20 pitches. Any problem in the 9th and then I guess kennedy comes in to face Kotchmann or Kennedy (though then they'll use Kendrick to PH).

Let's just pray it all works out.

Great move IMO
Get your best pitchers in the most important situations.

Duke vs. heart of the lineup... yes please!

who's gonna close today?
Who is due up
For the Angels?
Vladdy, Salmon, Alfonzo, Quinlan
i have to go to the restroom
but i don't want to leave the radio!
Payton...
while not hitting much, is still solid in the field
even when the game isn't televised
korach/fosse are just as good
Gaudin or Saarloos
Whoever is not starting in place of Loiza.  Vlad's coming up.  Should have left Street in.
I actually like bringing Duke in...
Get him to face the most difficult part of the lineup, let someone else mop up the rest in the 9th...

He has to survive first though...

Its the theory of using your best pitcher in the highest leverage situation.

just caught up
ugh i have to go to class... but i need to finish this game!

could street have gone one more?

Dammit...here's Vlad
i think duke will get a 2 inning save
Welll...here's the big out
Who cares about the ninth if Vlad hits with one on here.
GAAAAGH!!!
Eegah!
Watch out for snakes!
(Let's see who gets that...)
The ride on the sand buggy was cool
Love the reference to the MST3K quote haha
Wheeeee!
Stop staying "Wheee!" Nobody says "Wheee!"

Love it!

Arch Hall Jr.
Double threat...master of acting and the guitar.
no problem. go duke!!!
let's go duke - sher
Tempting to walk Guerrero here.
He's that good. 3-5 with a dinger against Duke, too.
Breath in. Breathe out.
Duke for two innings
Why is that such a big deal? And shouldn't we trust that the A's have a better sense of Street's limits right now than we do?

Look, it's not a perfect system without your closer. You do what you can to close games. Macha has done fine mixing the guys he has.

If Duke struggles, you might get Sarloos. We'll see. Kennedy may have to pitch in a situation not ideal for him. That's how it is right now.

We have Duke vs. Guerrero right now. He should have started the inning.

I think
the Duke did start that inning.  Agreed on the rest.
I know
Sorry. That's what I meant. I was emphasizing the "should" for those wondering why he was in. Should have written this: "Duke started the inning, and he should have."
Ah...
In that case, I agreed with the whole thing.
Phew!
That was scary.  Nice D.
just a lazy fly to center hahaha
Not that lazy! :)
Ack!
Heart attack, thank you JayPay!
Vlad is very good...
but he's out number three.
That was intense
Who else loves having three CF's?
Thanks Duke and JayPay!
let's go duke - sher
Let's go Duke. Sure.
OMG!
I just threw up in my mouth.
Wow...
That is the BIGGEST bullet we've dodged all season long.  We are going to have to walk him late in the season because you can't let Vladsicle beat you in these situations.
Biggest?
I remember a couple clutch catches last night....
This is the most recent!
Therefore, the BIGGEST.  It could change in the bottom of the 9th.
wow, vlad is scary
korach;
"and the a's fans can exhale"
Not until we win the game. :)
I love Korach.
lets put up some insurance runs
DJ's lead off double is a good start.
:D
insurance runs please!!!
time to blow it
wide open
good start DJ!
DJ!
On our way to an AFLAC!
Great oppo power
from dj

get this run home!

DJ is the 9th inning monster!!!
Hey DJ!
Bring that beat back! Bum-chick-bum. Bum-chick-bum.

Sorry, for a second there Johnson's sweet swing had me channeling an 1988 breakdancer.

Will Melhuse
bunt?
There is a photo of the brawl
of Kendall and Lackey, etc. on the front page of the A's website now!

Let's go A's!

He even scrums with his mouth ajar
Oh, that's my Lackey!
Joe Kennedy up.
Looks like he gets the ninth, to try and get save #2.
Kielty versus a lefty
It's your time to shine!
Or get packing once again.
Kielty on base!
Everything I have come to know about life is suddenly in question.
Horrible out by Melhuse
If he lets Kielty bat against the lefty, now that's bad managing.
Kielty kills lefties:
Doesn't Kielty kill lefties, his bad side is his
left side, I thought
Wouldn't Kennedy close?
I'd prefer Duke.
Kennedy is up.
Looks like it's his ballgame.
I really hate the idea
of Kennedy closing vs all of their right handed good vs lefty hitters (Salmon, Alfonso, Quinlan)
has Joe won u over that much?
Duke to Salmon
Then the pitching change to Kennedy.  At least I hope that is how it shakes out.
This is Booby's shot:
He needs to get it done here or just go away.
Leave Duke in
have Ken-Dog ready to roll
3-1
Great shot, here
loaded bases
for Swish!!
Bases juiced...
Ellis hit again!
That looked like it really hurt!
Romero's throwing everything in the dirt.
Or, alternately, at the batter.
Ellis hit again!
Mysteriously channeling the soul of Kendall today.
C'mon Swish!
from sfgate!
Good photo
Looks like Kendall is losing there though
Mathis is a thief
He is trying to STEAL Kendall's new batting gloves.  Someone needs to blow up this photo so we can know for sure.
Come on Swish
Be patient. This guy is toast. He has no command.
so good at loading the bases
let's see some results. here come's swish from the right side.
Know your role and dont charge the mound, Ellis
Kotsay runs for Johnson
NICE - well done macha
Bases Barry'ed.
And here comes The Swish.
Obviously not intentional in that situation
but since I can't see it, any reaction from the benches or Ellis on the HBP?
Good move to pinch run here
Kotsay at third for Johnson.
kotsay's gonna pitch the 9th!
He was a very good closer in college
Yeeaaahhhh
Let's Go A's
does he really need to hit it to right
for the sac fly?  much rather test the arms in either cf or lf
Swisher!!! Swisher!!! Swisher!!!
yes yes yes yes
Let's here it for Macha on that one
I gave instant approval
So Kots in OF - swish to 1st?
or hear it
What I hear
is an echo...
hear it, I mean
hear it, I mean
uh, need to keep my kid from the computer
Big AB for chavy
Ball dropped. How fortunate.
Very fortunate.
Jeff Mathis
He's the new Josh Paul!
Do you walk Chavez to get to Thomas?
Dilemma for Angels!
Absolutely
the question is intentional or unintentional?
Didn't help them much.
Did it?
no one has commented this
but the ball beat kotsay by about 6 feet. an absolute strike from vlad, we got lucky there.
mathis has no grit
I'm gonna go now.
<Sends positive vibes to the A's>
Sweep the Leg! NO MERCY!!!
Bring out the body bag!
FT needs to relax his stance like compy75 sez
I smell salami.
It smells grand.
Here comes rookie Bootcheck
to face one of the last decades best with the bases loaded. Let's hope the real Frank shows up.
more pix from yahoo!

CRAAAAZYYYYY!!!!

Why is Thomas laughing?
Football player
He loves it!
I would too
If I were his size and someone stood within 20 feet of me during a fight.
great pix!
Kendall must've wanted to reenact
his A's ad with the random strangers tackling people.
Bones
It looks like bones is about to swallow his chew. "Hey guys... I really got spit!!"
this is a chance for FT
to make a major impression on us.

hook it up!!

After this win 2.5 games up on LA and climbing
Thyte have a very tough schedule the next 3 series. We could be up 6 games on them before we run into the Yankees....
Holy crap.
Talk about stirring up the gods of bad juju.

No win talk until we've won.

Now you have to
Go outside spin around 3 times and spit
Seriously
How many beers do you think Kendall has had already? He deserves everyone of him. What a baller.

He went after our nemisis Lackey...what a tone to set for the rest of the year. I am giddy.

This will make an impression
Kendall's deal will fire up the club if they come out with a victory.  I'm telling you!
Would be a huge hit
I am rooting for a bases clearing
single!
duke for two innings?
What does Big Hurt do exactly?
This ones in the bag
I really can't stand the phrase
"popped up, right side".

Just FYI.

Where's monkeyball?

right here!
I've been charging the virtual mound in the thread above.
BIG HUUUUURT!!!!
YES!!!
Thank you Frankie!  2 run single!
HURT!!!
You're my BOY!
No bad juju today...
YESSSSSSS!!!
ALL RIGHT FT!!!!
atta way frank!
what a big hit by big frank!!!
WOOHOO! And my VCR didn't die!
another lesson from Big Frank
for young Swish.  better to test the weak arm of anderson rather than strong arm of vlad
Frank Thomas is SO not clutch!
We already had this game won! Those 2 runs are meaningless!
There you are!
I was so worried!
Frank should charge the mound.
Bootcheck was disrespectin'.
he violated the written-in-lemon-juice rules
I guess that's what Big Hurt does
Sweet. We're kicking their ass.
F___YEAH!!!!
F'in Frank Thomas!!  YES!!!
Gone!
BC 3 run HR!!!!
YAY AREA
what a feeling!
ChoCoBoCro clears the bases with a 3-run
shot to left!
Yeah baby
i love this
bootcheck guy
Back at the Mendoza Line...
...for Frankie!
the offense must have gotten the memo that the
season started. way to go bobby!!!
yabba dabba doo! big hurtski!!
That was what I have been waiting for....YES!
A Little Hurt
But a hurt nonetheless!!!!

Me of little faith!!

much prefer the
oaktoon flip flop to the positive side.  glad to see u feeling positive
hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
WHEEEEE!
Er, I mean, YEEEEEAHHHH!

:P

HOLY CRAP!!
We have some freakin' offense!!!
oh poor bootcheck
bwhahaha
Bootcheck threw 5 of 6 pitches in the exact..
...same spot - right down the middle.

He either crapped his pants and just wanted to avoid a walk, or he's awful.

Either way, it's the Angels who have the 'big hurt' now.

WOOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
insurance run
or 6... way to take the pressure of the pen
WHOO! Huge inning!
Okay, I think it's safe to get some caffeine now.
Now we're really kicking their ass
Best game of year.
Best game of year.
i second that
Holy shit
Crash crashes it out of the park!  3 run homer!
don't you mean bones
ummm
Bones bones it out of the park?!?

umm....<yikes!>

CROSBY GOES YA-YA!!!! 10-3!!!
It's Gaudin Time!!!!
Gaudin
For the 9th, no sense in using Duke
no its Ron Flores time, why waste Gaudin
Flores may not be around much longer.
Bring in Huston
No pressure assignment after being off for so long.
He already pitched the 7th
Umm...he pitched already!
oh,who cares about a little ol' rulebook!
Macha used him before I got here?
Now THAT'S a reason to fire him!
We should bat Bobby
behind the Big Hurt more often.  He seems to like to get his hits right after FT gets a hit, a mutual admiration society of sorts
crosby 3 run jack following FT 2 run single
for those keeping score at home
Duke in the 8th
Well - I guess that was pure genious.

Damn me for doubting the all-wise Macha

Join the club
I'm right there with you.

Damn, this one's nice

holly smokes, bc homered?
mlbtv went gunny bag on me.
BubbaCro!
Can you hear the Angel fans?

No, neither can I.

like I said
A momentum switching event (Kendall charging the mound)

I still think it dumb.

But who cares??

Yes, virginia, WE HAVE BATS+!!!!!!!!!!!

Just thought I would check in...
Maybe I should check in more often!!
Bootcheck stats after two batters...

Welcome to 2006.
Well, update the stats to...

0.667 BA
0.750 OBP
1.333 SLUG
2.083 OPS
54.00 ERA

My MLB.tv cut out before...
Croz's HR.  What did it look like?
"Bootcheck throws gasoline on the fire"
great work from Hud and Phys
Someone needs to give Crosby a boot-check.
I think they'll find an Angels pitcher wedged in his cleats.
Wait, the A's are scoring all these runs?
After the wrestling match, I took a break to do some actual work..  and I come back, and the A's offense explodes?!  Since when does that happen?
HOOODEEEHOOOOO
The bats come alive
watching angels network
announcers cant stop talking about kendalls being hit by so many pitches
they should be talking abou mathis' inability to
catch the ball
Yep
thats' what allowed the big inning
A pitcher named Gobble
did just that-- Gobbled us up.

but Bootcheck??

In a game started by SlingBlade himself??

Sorry, Mikey-- go back to the drawing board on that one!!!!

Angels fans booting?
Check.
How hilarious
that Kotsay actually gets to hit the same inning he comes in as a pinch runner.  Very good stuff.
It's called "offense," I think
Perhaps you've heard of it...
Offense you say?
Maybe it is an all new May thing?
okay
this has been the best game in a loooong time!!
Oaktoon - I love your diaries and analysis
'I'm afraid the fight turned this game around and we'll be very fortunate to win it.'

I hope I'm not offending the woofing gods with a 10-3 lead into the bottom of the 9th, but that better be enough to win it.  This should count as bullet-dodged (or outran).

Listen...
I'll do a post like that every game if it leads to 10 runs and a rout!!!!!!!

Kendall; Dumb
Macha: Dumber
Oaktoon: Dumbest

Why Oaktoon is an iconic figure here
.200
This is the game that we'll all remember because FT turned things around.  His RBI's are on pace to out-do Hatte and he has been horrible thus far.  I love the guy.
What will the Rev say tonight?
"Sure they beat us 10-3, but... um... we have a Rally monkey! So shut up!"
Kendall
Should get into a fight every game
have to laugh
announcers say scosia is upset his pitcher got thrown out. the way he went on and on he should have got thrown out
There will be no save in this game
But Duke sure as hell deserves one.

And we can all be happy about Street's performanc too. What a game! I re-iterate, I'm so glad I didn't go to class!

if you have mlb.tv
you should perfect the technique of having the game in one corner of your screen with word in the other. it's quite brilliant. i am also getting better at reading between pitches and picking up the pitcher's motion in my peripheral vision. yay for finding ways to not do work.
ten runs in nine hits
I am pleasantly surprised.
This is a great situation to use Gaudin
(unlike some others I can think of...)
I agree
and if you think that's easy for a Longhorn to say about Sooner, then you know nothing about the rivalry
Let's just say that it took me several months...
last year to adjust to cheering for Street.

Damn Whorns....

I was so happy
The A's drafted him, he's an amazing closer, not Vince Young amazing, but who is
Can you say...
Double Digits in scoring 2 of the last 3 games!?! Wow.
they can hit
It was just a matter of time.

And Ellis hasn't broken out yet.

I think it's nice that we have a new...
..'Hanging Chad'.
Let's Go
Dan....i mean Chad
what are you suggesting?
The Royals cure all
Our confidence is UP because of our trip to The "K".
I think, when this game in the books,
that we will have been inoculated, inculcated, demarcated for our destiny this season....finally on course.
ahahahaha
sciosia got booted! yay!
shut up soscia that was not on purpose
Uh Oh
will gaudin get tossed for that??
No, Scioscia
A perfect ending to a perfect day!!!!!
Woo!
Scoscia gets the boot!
stupid angels announcers
they are saying gaudin tried to hit batter. scosia running on field wanting gaudin thrown out
Umpires
Made the right call not throwing out Gaudin.
Hey Hey Hey
Gooodbye. See ya Scioscia
he is the most annoying manager ever.
Cool!!!! The Crybaby gets the boot!
wow, sciosia is not happy about this latest hbp
did Crybaby Mike just get tossed?
Yep
This game is ugly.
scoscia
does the angels team take after the lead of scoscia.  he takes it upon himself to whine and complain as much as possible, and for things that are ridicules.
take the sulk-off, k-rod doesn't get one call and gets all upset and complains, next thing u know Kenall ends it all w/a great hustle play.
honestly, i can't stand scoscia
Man...
AN rocks!

I just went back to read up on the fight and LMAO!!!

hilariously funny... "Kendall just earned half his salary"

I love an A's victory
but I extralove Scioscia getting tossed!
I remember when Physioc was on KTVU with M. Ibanez
This is gonna be a fun year
Rivalry!1
macha should fight scoscia
Macha has the kung-fu kicking abilities
not a fair fight
Macha knows judo....wait, who cares about fair?
They are
on the baseball diamond.
if the radar gun for fox is accurate
gaudin is mixing up a 91mph fastball (that has touched 94) with a 77mph changeup. sounds good to me.
Hi everyone
Did I miss anything today?
oh, nothing at all
just another boring game between the A's and angels. :)
Must get final out NOW
please - gotta work!
you have a 7 run lead throw strikes.
C'mon Scioscia
Gaudin would not have wasted his time getting to an 0-2 count on Quinlan if he was just going to hit him.

Moron.

Did you see Macha come charging out of the dugout when Ellis got hit in the top of the inning.  No.  Why?  Because Macha realized that you would not load the bases in what (at the time) was a close game.

Double Moron.

best game of the year
I blew it!
I just assumed it was a night game and didn't notice it was going until the 9th!  AAUGH!
Thats okay
The 9th was the best inning!

The rest of it felt like a heart attack

DEFINITELY BEST GAME OF THE YEAR! =D
YES
the best game most A's fans couldn't see.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Great memories today.  For some reason I was recollecting the K-Rod mishap when Kendall scored the winning run.  What a day that was with Bill King's call!!!!!!

Is there an available link for that audio clip?

And thus we have the Rev excuse for the night.
"Our pitcher got tossed for hitting them, but theirs didn't get tossed for hitting us. Favoritism!"
Can't even get favored in their own stadium...
after browsing through the Angels blog, I've decided that Angels fans are a violent bunch.
Um ...
... after reading all of the favorable comments on Kendall's charge, I'd say AN has a "violent bunch" as well.
<attacks monkeyball>
<passively resists>
<relaxes all muscles ... and I do mean all muscles>
Ridiculous
Gaudin clearly did not do it intentionally. Besides, Ellis got hit in the previous inning, and I don't think the ump issued a warning. Puh-leez.
a lot of good signs today
great work by halsey, street comes back and looks good, crosby hr, thomas with a couple of hits... i like it.
Great win !!!
Game ball goes to Kendall for kicking Lackey's @ss.

Prediction: After suspension, Kendall hits his 1st home run of the season.

1000+ comments for a mid-day game ...
gotta heart AN
brawl accounts for at least 25%

Looks like a long year for
Los Halos.  Kind of feel sorry for them.  They are a shell of their former selves, Gimpy Anderson and Erstad limping around the bases.  They may as well throw in the towel and start playing their kids...
Don't give them any ideas
If they do that, they might actually get back in this thing.  Their kids are better now then many of their regulars.
No worries, I don't think Scioscia reads
blogs.  I mean at some point you have to think with all the talent they have they'd stop playing artheritic Anderson, erstwhile Erstad, Old man Salmon, and joke Alfonzo!  But Scoscia trots them in and out, day after day.  He also has his 2nd best hitter batting 9th.  How he got a rep as a good mgr is beyond me!
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!

OK, it's just two games.  But it's the first sweep of the year.  Hopefully, many more to come!  Is this woofing?
Nope...no woofing
I love it!
Back to back
Two-game sweeps.  We could make it THREE in our next series.
Oh yeah....
...I guess the KC series constitutes as a sweep since we won all of the games that ended?  I'll call the KC series an incomplete sweep or a partial sweep, and pronounce the LAAAAAAA series as the first COMPLETE sweep of the year!

Winning is good.

I like this better...
How does one make these animations?

OK, I'll stop...
A's In First, Angels in LAST!
Check the standings!
The shot of Kendall and Lackey in a headlock
on the A's website is precious. Note veins popping out of Lackey's forehead.
From the HH open thread...
DUCHSCHERER HURT ?
According to Gameday, he was about to pitch the 9th and they came to the mound and replaced him with Chad Guaidn
by Rev Halofan on Tue May 02, 2006 at 06:27:41 PM EST

i hope he died

CLASSY!

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why their open thread has 28 comments, and ours has 300+.

No national story?
Funny how a brawl between these 2 West coast power houses does not even (yet) get a mention on the ESPN.com site. If the Yankees/Sox had brawled, ESPN would have called a national state of emergency. By the way, did anyone know Johnny Damon went back to Boston yesterday?
Ya don't say?
I hear that the Red Sox also had a spectacular last minute trade for a backup catcher that eventually involved most of the transportation infrastructure of the eastern U.S.
its on
sportscenter
They had to wait for the game to end for highlight
Really obvious that Lackey talked shit, Kendall made him shut up, and that Scoiosca is a complainer.

Great brawl, always good for a team.

wel...
on the east coast that is...i don't know if that mattered.
great set of highlights on Sportcenter
All three jacks and the fight!
on a busy sports day....
only 3 games have gone on today, and they spend no more than one minute for covering all of the game and its events.
Apparently...
..that's what is required to get on Sportscenter if you're not playing for the Red Sox or Yankees.

A fight.

It's on XM 175
Highlights coming of A's/Angels!
if Molina or Mathis had charged the mound ...
... after, say, Tim Hudson (the only recent A who springs to mind as likely to yap like Lackey did to Kendall), we'd all be bitching about what a cheap shot it was and what a hotheaded, criminal clubhouse culture Scioscia encourages.

Just sayin' ...

Okay for me...
...I feel like the A's in general lack a lot of fire and passion. It's nice to see that suface sometimes. I miss fire and passion.
And your point is?
Our guys = good.

Their guys = bad.

Ya gotta problem with that?

Good point Monkey.
Kendoll is a bit of a hot head.  BUT one does wonder whether his manoeuver fired the A's up for their 10-run outburst?
Fosse said earlier
Kendall apparently charges the mound once a year, and since he didn't last season, he was sort of overdue.
I guess he charges the mound more
than he hits HRs these days then!
Bad example.
Had Molina or Mathis charged Huddy, we'd be laughing our asses off because Huddy would have absolutely MAIMED either of those and fully earned a suspension! :-)

Now, the Duke or Zito or something and everyone would be pissed... And if Huston got charged, the charging player would be in the hospital due to severe injuries from legions of irate women descending upon him and rending him limb from limb (Maenad-style).

yeah, Huddy would have maimed 'em ...
... like he maimed those drunk Red Sox fans in the bar ...
Hey man,
He singlehandedly took down eight bouncers! And maimed women and children before burning their villages!

God, I love Boston papers.

and all they did to Huddy was ...
... strain his oblique ...
Where is Oaktown Power?
Seems like his kind of game today.  Can't believe he wasn't around...
Hmm
I was going to post here to start calling Kendall one of the old standards, either "gunslinger" or "rifleman" (which would go with his old school baseball mentality), to celebrate his rediscovered ability of throwing out runners, but after today...?

How about "headlock"?  lol

I don't care if he never hits a homer in an A's uni, I still think he brings this team exactly what they need...toughness.

Seriously
I can no longer disrespect Kendall's bat because I respect the rest of his player mentality.

He is a such a badass.

Or grit.
Or lawsuits.
Ooo
I'm liking Grit
When was the last time an A's player
was involved in a fight?  (Texas chair throwing incident doesn't count, cause it was the fans fighting the Rangers not the players)
I'm very curious
to see the players' quotes on today.

I really want to see if Kennedy has a comment on Kendall's fighting prowess. :-)

I'm down in L.A.
and it's wonderful to hear Rory Marcus, the Angels' baseball radio announcer, all bent out of shape.
Could this game have given the A's some life?
