But they start a new month with some demons to overcome, opening a three-game series Friday at Oakland, the site of some of their worst struggles in the last five years.
That includes a three-game series in late April in which the Sox had an eight-game winning streak halted while losing two of three games, starting when staff ace Mark Buehrle twice failed to protect a three-run lead. Friday, the A's come in on a seven-game winning streak.
Since 2001, the Sox are 3-18 at McAfee Coliseum, including an 0-9 stretch.
"We never play well when we go there," Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said after the Sox improved to 5-0 at Comerica Park this season on Freddy Garcia's complete-game five-hitter.
"Hopefully it's in the past. When we went there we were playing well and lost a couple of games when everyone got hurt on the same day."
NOT IN THE PAST BABY (I hope, not trying to speak too soon.)
Okay the game is on the game is still on. Does anyone know if any store still has the 4 dollar ticket pepsi cans? I went to about 6 stores and none of them had them anymore :(
about contreras is ridiculous. his biggest problem has been his inconsistency and his lack of control. plus, he's OLD. he's not going to become one of the "best in the league" at this stage.
lying in bed, watching the boys take teh lead on some absolutely terrible pitching by the Sox (and unbelievable patience by the A's), and now Calero pitching incredible to get us to Street (after our half of the 8th of course). Now, lets close this out and prove ourselves as the hottest team in the majors!

he chokes up to try and get on base all the time. he doesnt need to try and power the ball. he could in pitt, because it didnt matter, they were going to lose anyway.
He'll hit one, watch it like Bonds does for like a minute while doing a Boone bat flip. He'll then pump his fist in the air, jump up and down, and shake the hand of every infielder on the way around the bases. Once he gets to home plate, he'll do a two footed jump onto the plate into a crowd of his teammates waiting to mob him. Mind you this will be the 5th inning of a blowout.
I know that you're not supposed to play the game where you remove one or two bad outings. But with Calero I feel it is warranted, given that he had two outings where he gave up 9 runs while pitching injured.
So...if you discount those two as being due to injury, Calero has had an ERA of under 1.00. And I think that is much closer to his ability than his 5-something ERA now shows.
i love the ERA, K's, WHIP, and BAA, but i wish he had more saves... it's still paying off like crazy that i picked him up on opening day in my fantasy league. 1st place feels good. especially with the A's haters in my league...
have been good this year mainly because they have power. The Netwerk A's Mausoleum is a pitcher's park. The rest of this series ought to also go very well....
in this situation, to be honest. If you have a guy as your closer, he should be used to save games. If the A's are leading with one, two or three runs tomorrow, are you going to bring Street out for the third day in a row? What about Sunday?
i just saw that what i typed was vague... what i meant, was that there were a couple diaries, and i think the suspension and fine was not enough. that could have been misinterpreted.
that was how I interpreted it (I guessed you weren't calling for more diaries on the subject). I just came straight to the game thread and didn'tr scan the diaries.
WOOOOOO!!! So much for the "best team in baseball." The A's are now one game below .500 and keep pace with Texas and Anaheim who won today. Wins are sweet, and we did awesome taking advantage of all those walks :)
i love seeing kendall give street congrats after the game. today he was squeezing his neck a little, really makes you think he sees huston as like a little brother.
they should interview Street post-game one of these days. Nice game for the A's, good win for the 8th in a row. Again, love the annoying patience. (Meche is gonna regret saying that, but it's so true! ;))
Thanks for the heads up about that! It was the first highlight of the night - barely turned on the TV again in time. They breezed through the A's records for the past three months, including a clip of Zito looking depressed for May, then talked a bit about the walks that scored runs tonight.
Street made those last three batters look ridiculous! Calero's da man because now we've got the Duke of Hurl for Saarloos tomorrow, bring in Rincon, then bring in Street to make them look like little leaguers again. We could be well above .500 by allstar break. Nice.
Look at the open game thread for tonight's contest against the Rangers: here
Read those last four or five comments. These guys have it totally rough. All I can say is that people on AN weren't throwing in the towel like that in May. Of course, we knew than that our team wasn't showing it's true colors. M's fans know that their team isn't in a funk - they really are this bad.

he was our only warm guy (Yabu wasnt ready)...and we have the Duke ready to go tomorrow. We'll be fine.ZeroIndulgence - July 1, 2005
Did anyone already report ?
Kenny Rogers suspended for 20 gamesgreen star oakland - July 1, 2005
at least 2 diaries
and IMHO, it's not enough.Ryan Armbrust - July 1, 2005
sorry - only just got home
green star oakland - July 1, 2005
it's cool
i just saw that what i typed was vague... what i meant, was that there were a couple diaries, and i think the suspension and fine was not enough. that could have been misinterpreted.Ryan Armbrust - July 1, 2005
s'ok
that was how I interpreted it (I guessed you weren't calling for more diaries on the subject). I just came straight to the game thread and didn'tr scan the diaries.green star oakland - July 1, 2005
He Gone!
Force - July 1, 2005

For a split second I thought that ball was going home.Melody - July 1, 2005

PLEASE K everett to end the game...Ryan Armbrust - July 1, 2005
Street:
10 pitches, all strikes. Gorgeous.Melody - July 1, 2005
Gorgeous
Huston or his pitches? What the heck both!hookem street - July 1, 2005
All the Giants
needed was a big butt whoopin to get them to win 4 straight and take a game against the division leaders, the San Diego Padres? :/Hit4TheCycle - July 1, 2005
HELLS YEA!
i love it.Ryan Armbrust - July 1, 2005
LOL... announcers
"Get on out of there." -- Sox announcersHe had a full second to stand there and wait for it to fall into his glove.

VICTORY!!!
A GREAT start to the holiday weekend!!!FormerHuntsvilleStar - July 1, 2005
How about our bullpen?
Our starters have been getting credit, but I think our bullpen is working on a 15+ inning scoreless streak.Lath - July 1, 2005
Is it just me
or do we look more like a "team" every day?salb918 - July 1, 2005
Oh Baby!
"Everything has been a strike [in the 9th]." --Sox announcers, just before the third strike.Very satisfying game!
Dan_Honolulu - July 1, 2005
CELEBRATE!!!
WOOOOOO!!! So much for the "best team in baseball." The A's are now one game below .500 and keep pace with Texas and Anaheim who won today. Wins are sweet, and we did awesome taking advantage of all those walks :)ZeroIndulgence - July 1, 2005
Keep up with LA and Texas, yes.....
and gaining a game on the Yankees and Orioles!Arizona - July 1, 2005
Carl Everett
He gone! You can put it on the boooaaard! Yes!
Force - July 1, 2005
that was a ridiculous inning
no balls. oh, how we love huston street.i love seeing kendall give street congrats after the game. today he was squeezing his neck a little, really makes you think he sees huston as like a little brother.
nycfan @ Athletics Nation - July 1, 2005
I think
they should interview Street post-game one of these days. Nice game for the A's, good win for the 8th in a row. Again, love the annoying patience. (Meche is gonna regret saying that, but it's so true! ;))whiteshoes40 - July 1, 2005
500 tomorrow :-)
green star oakland - July 1, 2005
everyone
check out sportscenter, they just had a teaser, highlights from oak-chi after the commercial.rare espn coverage! wow!
Ryan Armbrust - July 1, 2005
It only took 8 in a row?
ArakSOT - July 1, 2005
That was quick
Thanks for the heads up about that! It was the first highlight of the night - barely turned on the TV again in time. They breezed through the A's records for the past three months, including a clip of Zito looking depressed for May, then talked a bit about the walks that scored runs tonight.Melody - July 1, 2005
it was quick
but it's sportscenter, not baseball tonight. most game wrapups are quick. the cardinals got about 8 seconds.Ryan Armbrust - July 1, 2005
Well I was hoping that
Kiko Calero and Huston Street's fantastic outings or that even Harden's return would be mentioned, but nope.Melody - July 1, 2005
Huston, we don't have a problem!
Street made those last three batters look ridiculous! Calero's da man because now we've got the Duke of Hurl for Saarloos tomorrow, bring in Rincon, then bring in Street to make them look like little leaguers again. We could be well above .500 by allstar break. Nice.Durden - July 1, 2005
Poor M's!
Look at the open game thread for tonight's contest against the Rangers: hereRead those last four or five comments. These guys have it totally rough. All I can say is that people on AN weren't throwing in the towel like that in May. Of course, we knew than that our team wasn't showing it's true colors. M's fans know that their team isn't in a funk - they really are this bad.
