You should only be asking more than an inning out of Street when he "needs work," not just because the matchup is more favorable. It's a bad habit to get into and a great way to strain a golden arm.
but it also may be a bit high-minded. We NEED wins for morale, and we can't let these close ones slip by. Rincon allows HR's and is just plain not as effective vs. Righties.
One extra batter won't kill his arm. But putting in another reliever in this situation is a waste of a reliever, because he has to warm up, and that will hurt is availablility in the next few games (he might be able to pitch the next day, but the day after that?).
My eyes have seen far too many blown saves to trust a lesser pitcher in a tight situation in a close game. I do agree, in the long run to try not to do this. If we had Bradford or another righty who was pitching well (Duch maybe). Then yes, use that guy.
Haven't you guys seen too many mediocre relievers stretched too far??? It almost ALWAYS leads to disaster. If it was a 10-20% of the time thing, then yes, by all means, let's think long-term. But it's happen much more frequently than that.

I have no
objection to getting 4-6 outs from a closer under the right circumstances, such as:- from guys who don't rely on throwing hard (e.g., Quiz)
- from guys who don't throw a lot of pitches and can thus get 4-5 outs in the # of pitches it takes most to get 3 (e.g., Foulke)

You don't understand about 21 year old arms
The history is full of 21 year old pitchers who got overworked, and were out of baseball in two years.
