Open Thread: Game 31 - A's vs. New York Yankees

King Richard Harden with a 2-1 record and a 1.82 ERA goes against Kevin Brown with an 0-4 record and an 8.25 ERA.

The A's look to take the series from the Yankees today with their stopper on the mound.

The A's go with this lineup:

Kotsay
Kendall
Chavez
Hatteberg
Kielty
Durazo
Ginter
Byrnes
Scutaro

Hazy Shade of Ginter makes his way back into the lineup today.  Again, I'd personally like to keep him in the lineup several games to see if he can get his swing on.

The Yankees counter with this lineup:

Jeter
Womack
Sheffield
Matsui
Rodriguez
Martinez
Posada
Giambi
Cano

LET'S GO A'S!!!

Interesting stuff
in Slusser's story: Chavy reiterated his willingness--and seeming desire--to move down in the order ("it's helped me before"), and Macha said he has no plans to move him. Starting to sound a little stubborn, Mach? Sometimes any little change is a good change just to break the pattern.
First?
Macha show on mlb kfrc audio
Hah
Macha thinks that they should have not taken  morning batting practice the first day due to the travel, the rough game the day before, the time change...and the grind of playing at Yankee stadium...."maybe not do that next time"  DUH!
Yes, there is a Hazy Shade of Ginter...
but the Patterns Still Remain
At the (Bronx) Zoo
The elephants are kindly

And the Yankees are dumb.

Looks like a fun day in the outfield
with all that wind.  Lets hope some of our flares land safely.
well at least somebody came out swinging
It's way too early for baseball
and for a college student to be up on a Sunday.
Will he swing at a 3-0 strike?
No.
Right down the pipe.
Chavy needs to be given the red light on 3-0
this is getting ridiculous.  all year they just groove 3-0 and he just watches.
er, green..
only one called strike in the inning,
and it was on a 3-0 count. Can't complain too much about that.
1-2-3 inning
For kevin brown. Amazing!
He's a junk pitcher at this point in his career
and you've seen how we've done against junk pitchers thus far this year...
Boy,
if the A's don't miss catching two fly balls today I'll be pleasantly surprised. Hopefully, I'm wrong or else one's foul and the other doesn't hurt us. Hope Harden has the K's going, though--bad day to be a fly ball pitcher.
wow
if we cant hit Kevin Brown at this point in the season, we might as well forfeit the division
He's not that bad.
Womack, on the other hand, is.  I heard a rumor that Steinbrenner is looking to bring in Bellamy Road to play left.

He already owns him...

He's not that bad.
Womack, on the other hand, is.  I heard a rumor that Steinbrenner is looking to bring in Bellamy Road to play left.

er, sorry about the double reply
its early
routine
play for chavvy
Byrnes caught his first chance
and the whiff
That's one through one.
For those who can't see,
Harden looks on his game so far. Solid command, giddy-up on the fastball, nasty change, poised and confident approach.

Brown looks like he's throwing hard, but not getting much sink on the ball--a lot of pitches up, but with good velocity.

thanks
appreciate it.
yes
Brown is all over the place
Two on, no outs
BIG inning!  Lets go!
Is it wrong that I have no confidence in this
situation?
i think it has to be rational
at this point not to have confidence.  but we can definitely have hope!  especially as its a lot easier to score w/ the bases loaded and no outs than from most situations.
Trust Ruby
what the hell
did ruuby ust do tin the box
Ruby with a base knock
Bases loaded for Ginter
Bases Juiced
Please, don't blow this one, boys!!!!
haha, stottlemyre or torre is out there right now
in the 2nd inning.  First time the A's have made someone do that in awhile!
EEKKKK!!
The dreaded bases loaded....
DREADED?
am i missing something?

er, sorry for the caps.

Yeah,
they rarely come away with anything with the bases loaded.

But I was being facetious. There was nothing mean intended by that comment.

here we go
come in ginter!
Looks like we're going to see Tanyon Sturtze
pretty soon... knock on wood.
or not, if we keep swinging at ball 4
that sounded like aluminum
aargh
Yes, dreaded bases loaded.  Have we scored from a BL situation all season?
maybe brown will
punch his hand into a brick wall again ... i still remember how much i laughed when i heard that happened
GVSU=Grand Valley St. U?
Dear lord...
at least get one run out of this.
Gotta get at least one!
are they really
gonna get out of this?!?!
I spoke too soon about sturtze
ill take
a sac fly
time to pull a ramon hernandez
is
chavvy on third? haha
I don't know's on third
yup
lay it down byrnesie!!
C'mon Byrnes!!!
Please...Byrnsie....PUL-LEEEEZE
Fair ball!
Oh wait, that was the bat..
Lets Go Oakland!
I'm going to pull out my hair if we don't get a single run from this.
make him work, byrnesy
fucking christ
MARCOoooooooooooooooooooooooo
Sure, Byrnes.
Make me cry.

This is depressing. Let's put on the squeeze, can't be any worse than the hitting with RISP.

Way to go Byrnes..
swinging at an outside pitch
that was outside by almost 2 feet.

nice brynes, nice.

can we please trade this guy? he's almost predictable now......

greendatitiz

Is it too early to start drinking?
I think I might need to start early after this.
Scutaro is going to get a bases loaded walk!
You heard it here first!
come on
bases loaded no outs with kevin brown on the hill and we cant score one run??
Marco
Well Marco is probably the guy I'd want up to bat in this situation.
were fouling
everything off, I dont get it
and im sick
of michaal kaat talking trash about our offense
Jim Kaat
Michael Bay, Jim Kaat, Paul O'Neill.
Jim Kaat
Michael Bay, Jim Kaat, Paul O'Neill.
Why?
Hes just stating facts man...it's just stats and he's right.  Dead right.
Timing's off
they're watching for the slider and fouling off fastballs would be my guess
oh god
thats great
please please please please please
WOW
were pitiful
The worst offense in baseball.
There is no doubt.
NOOOOOOOO MARCOOOOOOO
time to make a screwdriver, extra screw.
Un fu**king Believable
Seriously
That
was terrible.  Not even a sac fly.  Not even a 6-4-3 with no outs to score a run.

Wow.

klets just
NOT SWING AT ANYTHING AND LET BORWN WALK IN ALL RUNS TODAY
Aaaaaaaaarrrgh!!
Where's that half-empty bottle of gin from last night?
Rich Harden suicide watch
starts now
I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!!!!
When? When? when will this ineptitude stop, this is rediculous.  We're a better team than this, damn it!!!!
Pink arm band
Are the pink arm bands for mothers day, breast cancer, or as a statement of our teams offensive prowess?
all
of the above
Pretty simple:
Ginter: bad luck, Byrnes: hitter with exploitable weakness, Scutaro: oh well.

Good teams deliver the knock-out punch when they have someone on the ropes; the last week tells you that right now...not a good team.

Go A's.

Pretty simple
THEY SUCK
Im just beyond words for this offense...
It's so bad that I think its hilarious.  Even the announcers find it amazing.  4-33 with the bases loaded.  How do you not laugh at that?
Is Pat Tabler
still alive?  Can we sign him?
Hahaha.
dude was money with the bases drunk.
Speaking of drunk...
might be there in a few
But our BA with RISP
did go up that inning, for what it's worth (which is, evidently, nothing).
Well, that's it.
I'm done. If we are supposed to be blindly optimistic in the face of this absolute pathetic display of people not doing their jobs, I just can't be here anymore.

Thanks for the good times, AN. Have a good season. Good luck w/ your dream, Blez. I hope it works out.

Go A's, peace out.

Haha...Ok Mr. Drama.
Good Lord.
I don't believe it.
How many times do I have to watch the A's load
the bases and get nothing out of it?  This must
really be eating at the players.  I don't know
how they can stand it.  After reading Aces, this
kind of thing really wears out a baseball team.
Ok well let's think happy thoughts
like how Georgey's horse absolutely FLOPPED yesterday.  Who the hell called Giacomo?  I liked some longshots, and played a few (Andromeda's Hero and Going Wild)...but Giacomo?
Fire Macha
We're hurting... we're in New York, we have the bases loaded with no outs....

and he's kicking it in the dugout on his ass shooting the shit.

Get rid of this uninspiring bum

Hard to stay positive
in the face of this f**ing s**ty hitting.
wtf a's?!/1?1
just get into a double play with no outs!!!!! please just score a run!!!!!!!!
awful
This is quite possibly the worst offensive team i've seen in the past 20 years of baseball, they are 4 for 33 with bases loaded this year absolutely pathetic
Guys, relax....You just have to laugh.
Remember how bad this team hit
last year, right before that Pittsburgh series?  I think we'd just lost 2 of 3 to KC or something, and then we absolutely crushed the ball against the Bucs.  Weird stuff starts, then stops.

Eventually.

i'll say it.
if beane doesn't bring in a bat soon, his genius status will fall.

as is, this team is not going be able to put it over the top.

greendatitiz

I know Swisher and Crosby
struck out a ton, but we've really been showing their absense in these situations.  There's just nothing remotely scary to a RHP when they get to the bottom third of the order.
whatever
im never coming on this site again until the a's score a run. so im guna log off now and come back when or (if) they ever score a run. by a's fans. i hope i get to talk to u again
oh good
lets watch the yanks hit the far better pitcher
This is Dave Hudgens' fault
He said he was changing our hitters' approach to situational hitting in ST. Now they're even worse than before.
BRING BACK THAD
I agree
He really didn't deserve to get fired
and who the hell's even heard of dave hudgens?

Carney Lansford would be a MUCH better hitting instructor.  He still lives in the Bay Area, too...went to the rival highschool of his kid.

Yeah, Carney
would teach everyone to hit like Kendall!
that'd be awesome.
Really?
Did he really say that? If he did say that, he should be fired.
Yes
He was working with them because last year the "situational hitting" was less than ideal. He said he'd change their approach. Well, he's managed to make them go from "less than ideal" to "absolutely f*cking pathetic".
we need
a firey manager like ozzie guillen, to pump this young team up
Sweet Lou would be fun
or Larry Bowa
anyone
other then lazy ass macha
What we need
Is a real hitting coach. JP fired his a while back due to the Jays' poor sitational hitting. Beane needs to follow his friend's lead and do the same. Why does Beane insist with this piece of dead weight that had ONE major league hit in his entire career? If he were an awesome coach that could turn Billy McMillon into Manny Ramirez, I'd overlook his putrid big league playing career. That said, he's got NO excuse to keep his job. FIRE HUDGENS NOW!
saved us a run
and me having to hear annoying yankee announcers
This is
all going to turn out OK.

I can feel it.

Giambi
Buzz the tower, Richie.
like
Maverick circa top gun?
Steinbrenner got it wrong
at least according to gamecast.  Giambi's the fat toad, not irabu.

look at that pic!  he looks god awful now..

Giambi
Look like a heavy smoker
It's official
My late grandfather has a better chance of scoring than the A's offense.
woo
rookie can't hit.  keep it that way.
as horrible as that was
it's still a tie game, and the yankees just choked in (or harden just got us out of) almost the same situation.  so maybe both teams are playing very badly, but someone has to win.  let's just hope it's us.
OK
New promotion, we drop some unproductive schmuck to triple A (Thomas, Cruz) and we put a random fan on the roster for each home game. Any time we get the bases loaded with no outs, the fan gets to pinch hit. Can't do worse than the team, and it would put more people in the seats.
Matsui
Is there a uglier mug in the game than Matsui?
He's no where nea Willie McGee status, though...
Randy Johnson
hate to say it
but swish?
did it really happen in baseball or was it just in
a movie where they put in a midget (with an unbelievably small strike zone) to get the walk and then get replaced with a pinch runner?  i feel like that might be a good strategy for us with the bases loaded.
really happened
Eddie Gaedel, when Bill Veeck was running the St. Louis Browns, I think
Edie Gaedel
pinch hit for the Browns.  Bill Veeck set it up as a publicity stunt.
Eddie Gaedel
was a midget who had 1 AB (a walk, of course) for the St Louis Browns.

That move was the brain child of Bill Veeck, the greatest promoter the game ever had, and certainly one of the best owners.

If you desperately need a laugh (happens often this season), the short story "You Could Look It Up" by James Thurber describes a similar sitiuation, but with more outrageous and delightful results.

Is this ump
going to let Brown bounce a pitch for a called strike?
Baseball is measured by averages
Sure Chavy is batting .197, but I trust history, and history tells us that he will bat near his historical average.  If he hits .280 for most of the months he will have at least one monster month with an average over .420.

A team should hit its average with RISP or with the bases full for that matter.  If the A's have gone 4 for 33 with the bases loaded then they should have a streak where they go 14 for 33.

Imagine that!  Chavy hitting .420 and the A's getting 14 hits with the bases loaded!  History tells us this will happen.  I beleive it will.

IT WILL BE A JOY TO WATCH!  And its just a matter of time.

How about that top of the order.
Great to see production from the 1-3 today.
The Bell Curve lineup
doesn't seem to be working too well so far.
bye bye whiny bitch
Seeya
Quick, let's get Sheff!
He already knows how to hit it right to the infielders so the run doesn't score from 3rd!
The bitterness around here
goes really great with this crappy coffee.
THIS INNING WE SCORE!! DAMN IT!!
I'm feeling it...
Hatteberg walk, Kielty single.  Then I don't know.
If all the outs today
were productive outs, it would be 2-2. So we're not the only ones!

And frankly, if today's failures inspired chavygoldx4 to leave AN, it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Troll should have been banned long ago.

Blez, Nico solved the A's hitting mystery!
The A's are all regular AN readers, and they're sick of all the trolls, so they've decided to suck until the trolls can't take it any more and they all leave in a huff!  These guys are smart.
Booby's gonna bust out the whoopin' stick
I can feel it..
yeah, i don't get it
we've made tons of mistakes so far offensively, but there's still no score.  maybe we should save the bitterness for the games we lose 16-7.
What are Brown's numbers vs. Oakland?
It seems to me in the past, he has pitched us pretty well.  Not sure though.
HAHA BUNT SINGLE
hey Nico, was the shift on?
A-Rod
was off the line.  That was exactly what Hatteberg needed to do there.  I'm happy he bunted.
How odd is it
That Kielty is the teams current best stick
spoke too soon
No worries
So did I.
That outside strike
has been 6 inches off the plate all day.
Ruby with the base knock again
OK
I demand an extra base hit. If we get a single and then leave them loaded, I'm done watching for a week.
Great leadership by Hatty
"Sure I am the slowest runner on the team, but hey they are playing too deep, and we need to get something started."
Agreed
Smart play.
Ginter -- Sac Fly!
Whoops, wrong inning.
Lets get one of those 14 hits
we have coming to us with the bases loaded!
Here we go again
Scoot
C'mon!
second chance for Scoot
Since '99
the A's detractors have referred to the team as a "station-to-station" offense because of slow baserunners and no steals.

Of course, with all the extra-base hits it wasn't really station-to-station.  But the 2005 A's?  THIS is station-to-station baseball!

Hence why we really need to institute small ball
Or hit a few
doubles or homers!
We did institute small ball
we get tons of singles and walks, and occasionally we get a few in one inning. That doesn't score runs. You need to get people on, get them to scoring position, and drive them in. Getting a guy on, striking out, getting a walk and another single, then striking out looking twice with the bases loaded isn't gonna score any runs. I would like them to institute some big ball.

God damnit. Stupid A Rod

Small ball isnt that at all
small ball is running, taking the out to move the runner, stealing, hit and run...stuff like that.  Let loose Kotsay, Kendall, Byrnes and Thomas on the bases...  Do some more sac bunts...stuff like that.
c'mon scoot
break through
full count, here comes the heater
C'mon Marco
Do it.
blech
excuse me, folks.
I have to go brake something.
The thing is
It's not that Chavvy is slumping. Not that Byrnes is. IT"S THE WHOLE fRIKKING TEAM!!!
man
I hate that guy.
I mean
A-rod.
just turned on the game...
we're making KB look like he used to.  left bases loaded twice.

now arod homers.

looks like more of the same from the a's.

I'm Really Excited About
How many of our guys are getting on base!!!

Our OBPs are going through the roof!!!

Game Over.
No faith in this team to score today. The A's are making an 0-4 over 8 ERA Kevin Brown look like a Cy Young candidate. Simply pathetic.
Here comes Fat and Useless
Buzz the tower
i feel so bad for harden
he should have at least 4-5 runs of support right now. instead he has 0!!!! i dont blame him for giving up a homer to arod. hes prolly just pissed
I guess that's only a strike
to redheads.
And strike 1 to Cano
was lower and farther outside than "ball 4" to Giambi.
Also
Venezuelans
The A's tend to score only when I leave the room
Think I'll go call Mom.
this should be the lineup...
scutaro
hatteberg
kotsay
durazo
ellis
kielty
thomas
kendall
chavez

..then if chavez and kendall step it up, gradually move them back down in the order

**Greetings My Fellow ANers**
I did the unthinkable - I sold my soul to the devil for us to score some runs today.

Hope it works.

I hope
that you kept your receipt...
yes!
im psychic. we score 1 run this inning! wooo baby!!!!!!!!!
Lead off single
Big inning!
Great AB
for Kotsay!!  Wait for the hanging slider, and drill it!

Let's Go Oak Land!

nice ab...
MK still looks good
*clap* *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap*
why not hit Kotsay #3?
at least try it. Chavie at #3 is killing our whole offense.
I'm with ya
and we should bat him 2nd and clean-up at the same time, too.  I'm pretty sure he'd be able to score from 2nd after he hits his 3rd consecutive single to open the game!
a team full of kotsays
we'd be in first place!!!! hehe
kotsay steal 2nd now!
then kendall bunt!
then suicide squeeze!
OT
Just asked my GF what would happen if I went and played for the Yankees.  She said she'd have to drop me.

Think I've found a keeper!

brb cat's meowing
a's score 1 run this inning.just wait and watch!
Nice ab by Kendall
Worthless.
now a dp...
let's just move on to the bottom of the 5th
have a little more faith
chavy's breaking out of it.  he flew out.  See!
more bad luck?
not to big on faith
Chavez swung at ball four
Chavez is just a guess hitter right now
I'm glad he did
I like to see him swing the bat. Remember when he used to be a bad ball hitter? Remember when Chavy took a ball 4 inches off the ground and knocked it out of the park? I want to see him get back to that. He hit that ball decently well, and even when he catches a break and Sheffield falls down, he still ends up out.
That was a hit-and-run
his job is to swing at it if there's any chance it could be called a strike.
You can't
get a whole lot unluckier than Ginter's liner and Sheffield being able to catch that.

But I'm still waiting for Kendall to look less like he's desperately trying to make contact on a hit-and-run...on every at bat!

Who's injured?
sheffield - ankle
Prediction
Next batter hits a high drive, deep, looks like it's going 450 feet..but then gets caught in a swarm of Malaysian bees, flown back to the infield, and dropped into Jeter's glove for the third out.
$5
On that.
sheffield is such a faker
slump breakers...
Okay, the whole team needs to shave....this hair thing they got going ain't doin it for me...if you need to shave your head too, then do it - let's have a whole team of hudsons...it's obvious that the facial hair is slowing down your bat speed, your hand-eye coordination, and your running abilities. Come on guys!!!!

*sigh*

A confession...
...I have really enjoyed listening to the YES broadcasts of these games.

I feel dirty typing that! I can't help it! The announcers have been SO MUCH better than the usual Angels/White Sox crew I'm accustomed to.

I agree...
They're one of the few things I like about the Yankees. One of the few opponent announcer groups that don't annoy the crap out of me. They're not the in-your-face flat-out cheerleading types like the White Sox announcers. And they're not duds like the Angels announcers.
agree
I live in YES country, and I greatly enjoy watching them.  They obviously root for the Yankees, but they are somewhat professional about it.
i turned on the tv
and ray fosse sed, "and he pulled it into the right field bleachers to give the a's an early lead" i was soooo happy . i was jumping and pumping my fist then i saw the score 1-0 yankees. turns out foss was talkin about last year when chavez was actually good~!!!!
can we ever get a break?
why does God hate us?
do u think
we'll get shutout again?
prob
yea sadley
God hates us
because he lives with the Angels.
Ok
I'm going to go take a shower. Last two times I've stopped watching Yankees A's to take a shower, they've pulled it out.

I expect at least two runs by the time I'm done.

by a guy with an 8-somethin era
damnit now harden
is struggling
if we ever
get the bases loaded with no outs again. im gunna hope for a double play to score a run
WOW! WHAT A PLAY, SCOOT!
ahhh
maybe if i eat cheese...
As Usual...
The A's are making a guy with a huge ERA look like Cy Young.
i have an idea
how about. no1 comes to the thread for tomorrows game so that way maybe we'll get some luck and the a;s will score a run! whos with me!
I think we should sign Jose Canseco.
At least we're assured he'll always reach 1st base.
We need to bring Rickey back
Hey, I just realized that we need to bring the old dude back for one more go-'round.  He can teach this team how to play small ball (which, despite what billy says, they need to do) and he can put butts in the seats for his farewell tour while our team is still "growing".  A half of season of Rickey, compared to the revenues...plus I'd love to see him retire in the green and gold.  Let the man have a little diginity.
Yes!!!!
I've been waiting for A's pitchers to start drilling the opposition.  Now if the Yanks retaliate perhaps that will fire up the A's offense.
IF the Yankees retaliate...
I think they we're happy to let Matsui drive in the runner moved to scoring position because of the hit by pitch.

We just can't afford to allow the extra baserunners.

this is sad
every1! leave this thread now!
if we leave we might get some luck. so for the rest of the game. no1 talk or say anything!
I don't know..
I've been gone for a 1/2 hour already.

Oh, wait...

they can score 50 runs
i doesn't matter cause we were going to score anyway
were? or werent?
weren't...of course that was a typo
Oh Harden....
...poor kid. He knows 2 runs is an insurmountable deficit.
god. life sucks right now
Nice play by Chavvy.
Our defense is here.
Our pitching is here.
Offense...yoo hoo?
any1 else feel like
when the a's are on a strech of doin so bad. it just messes up ur day?
my girlfriend it an a's fan
just because i get so cranky when they lose.
blez...
can we get a new thread?  we need a change of pace...
If you think our RISP pct is bad,
check out our corner outfielders' "hitting the cutoff man" pct. I just looked it up, and it's .158. And there's no excuse for that.
THIS IS IT GUYS!!!!!!!
A'S TAKE THE LEAD THIS INNING!!!!!!!
every1 get positive!
LETS GO OAK-LAND!
Come on, Booby!!!!
we ended last inning on a good note
this inning will be good i can feel it
first pitch
way to go!!!
c'mon guys!
KEVIN BROWN IS 100 YEARS OLD!!! GET HIM!!
Scoreless Inning Countdown Clock: 14
Is Kevin Brown the new front-runner fo AL Cy?
stop being negative please
its rele annoying
i didnt know
a's fans were like this
Booby, then Ruby...
Anyone else wanna nickname Byrnes "Scooby"?
`Er, make that Ginter
why don't we call ginter Gooby
Woah
I was gonna say that... and how about "Scooby" for Scutaro?
its just the 6th inning
we have plenty of time to do something. plus rivera cant pitch today
Are you for real
Do you not watch these games
yes i watch every game
but i am an a's fan and i still have confidence in them
lets go ginter homer~!
Gotta tip your hat to Brown today !!
.... he's so darn good
Even John Rocker
Would look good against this team.
here comes the posting police...
::whistle::

just let it be. we have the right to vent.

blez
can u please tell these a's fans to please stop being negative cuz they wont listen to me but every1 listens to u so maybe theyll stop. sry but i just think its very annoying when they're so negative
eh.
we all have the right to say our piece. people can vent. it's been a fustrating year.
we find your whining annoying, too
so the feeling is mutual.

want some cheese?

why not bring watson and johnson up?
could they possibly be worse at this point? we're still carrying 3 2B for heaven's sake. Send one down and bring up a guy that can hit for power.

Why not at this point? Why not?

The A's are stinkin' up the joint.
99 pitches for Brown
and their pen sux outside of Rivera and Groom
then you gotta tip your hat to Wakefield Mon.
.... and tip it Arroyo Tuesday

and tip your hat to Matt Clement on Wed.

... just start tipping in advance.

I already tipped it to Kenny Rogers last Monday and Mussina yesterday

Few people are aware,
but A's actually stands for the Oakland Antidotes. To the Yankees' woes, to Kevin Brown's woes...  ;(

Go A's!

i wonder if harden
is still pitching 97 lol
don't want to panic but we are lucky we aren't 7
and 23.  the way we cannot score runs.  We need some pop in the lineup
i think
beane should make a move fast b4 this gets out of hand
he's gotta shake thing up
we need another Mabry trade
Brown showing he's worth every penny of his
$15 mil. salary today !!

He's just throwing a wet blanket on a 'torrid' offense !!

A's lineup can't figure him out.

besides
dont we have extra money with our new owners? cant we get some1 with potential to hit 27-28 homers?
Not really
They want to run it like a business (read: turn a profit) and with decreased attendence, we'll be lucky to add someone.

So, yes, they have money, but they aren't going to go into the red unless they are pretty darn sure itll bring another ws title to oakland.

one fifth of the season is basically over and
we've already been shut out four times and possible five times after today.  That's more than all of last season.  Isn't that correct.  That should be statistically significant
actually yesterday was 5th shutout
.... today will be six in 31 games.

all last year, shut out total of 3 times.

i know chavvy hasn't been hitting and he will turn
it around but can we be sure about the other guys?
dont worry
i think the offense will break out 1 of these innings. we;re still way in this game guys. i think kb is geting tired
Praying for a run
Does god exist?
hes thrown 99 and hes back in
this is ur chance a's!
thanks byrnes
dang
I just read an article on the A's website.
Chavvy said he feels lost at the plate and sounded like he was pleading to be moved down in the order.  Macha, however, doesn't want to change the lineup because he wants to show faith in the team.  I think a lineup shake up would do them a world of good right now.
Hmmm...
I can see Macha not wanting to change the lineup as a way of showing faith in the team, but when someone on the team is requesting the change so that they can get out of their slump, I would think he would respect that....I say move him down a few spots....
i just can't take watching byrnes trying to pull
the outside pitch.  he does it all the time.
i cant wait until we trade byrnes!!!!
go scoot!!!!
stop being so negative!
you are so negative! i wish blez would stop people from posting that they want brynes traded.
thats not negativity
i just dont think byrnes is a good player overall
Psst, here's a hint
he's making fun of you
LOL!
you beat me to it.
i dont like macha
hes so dumb. chavez is smarter than him. just move his ass down there and put kotsay in the #3 spot
Stop being so negative!!!!!!!!1111oneone
c'mon Kots...
A's feel sorry for Kevin Brown
They really want him to get his first win of the year.
7-pitch inning. damnit
Alright!
Six more outs for another shutout! Way to go!
There's a difference
between a bad team and a team playing badly. We're a flawed but capable team playing badly--not as badly as this time 3 years ago when we finished with over 100 wins, but badly.

This too shall pass.

Guillen.
Wheres Jose Guillen when you need him? Dang an outfielder with an amazing arm and understanding of where to throw the ball would be awesome to have. Not to mention he's hitting a mere .324 with 7hrs 19rbis which is more than any of our two corner outfielders combined...
