What a relief .
Good comeback guys!
seriously, the Yankees gave it up
I would hate to be them right now
Yeah, I'd hate to be in their shoes right now.
They're gonna take a lashing in tomorrow's NY papers.
finally
Huge!
AND the first win of a first game of a series in quite awile!Probably a rainout tomorrow!
hey hey ... just a routine victory !!
.... good golly

drink up 'ritas on me !!

This Game was AWESOME!!!!
Great times everyone!

I can enjoy my Friday now!

VICTORY!!!
Hooray for our side!!!
A'S WIN
too bad Zito didn't get a W.
Poor Zito :(
I started watching in the 7th inning (I had to go home from Santa Cruz), but I have the first part of the game taped. I think I'm going to go back and watch the whole game now, just because I know Zito pitched beautifully.
YAN-KEES SUCK!
I feel much better now.
YANKEES SUCK!
Huzzah
We scored twice as many runs as the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. They are struggling.
Yankees blew big time in the top
of the tenth inning. 2 errors on one play? the A's didn't even hit one ball out of the infield!
We can't count on errors by the other team.
It's kind of sad how so many of our wins have been the direct result of HUGE errors by the other team in late innings. [On the other hand, the A's have blown a few games due to stupid errors too.]

We can't always count on this, but oh well, we'll "take it" as they say ;)

You know the saying...
...of how weak looping singles look like screaming liners in the box score?

Guess it applies to the wins column in the standings, too.

I can't ever remember the Yankees ...
... making such a BONEHEAD play against A's like Martinez did on that grounder.

didn't touch the bag, threw wildly home !!

Man that never happens !!

they really do suck this year !!

their free-fall continues ... A's pull out of their tailspin !!

It's therapeutic...
seeing a team worse off than the A's
I agree ... I even forgive 2-buck Chuck ...
.... despite my profanity, I apologize
Now we need the Tiggers...
...to beat the Obtuse Angles and it will be a very sweet evening.
that's right
since Texas and Seattle were both getting whipped
That game made me feel good
and thats not the beer talkin.
Ever wonder what would happen
if Eric Byrnes were cloned and played all 9 positions for both teams in an extra-inning game?

Wonder no longer.

TFF !! LMAO !!
excellent game description!
As good as it may feel to beat the Yankees...
it feels even better to see them beat themselves by playing like Little Leaguers. This has got to be crushing for their morale.
Gameday Updates
Anyone else bringing up Gameday online and the darn thing does not update?

It did before I went away for a couple of weeks.  Now it doesn't.  I have to keep switching from "full" to "mini" view to get the latest.

That really stinks.  I had to just sign up for MLB audio to hear this game.

I haven't looked at Gameday
since I bought mlb.audio

I've got enough with keeping the feed from cutting out at crucial times, without dealing also with a freaky gameday (too bad, I used to enjoy it last year).

I prefer Sportsline...
...although I don't use any "Gameday" type stuff while listening to MLB Audio. The audio is like 30 seconds behind the gameday, which takes the suspense out of listening to the game.
Yup
I had the same problem.  I have a Mac, and use Safari as my default browser, and a few weeks ago Gameday just stopped updating.

I started using Firefox just for Gameday, and it's been working for me since then.

Firefox
Then it's off to download this browser -- thanks for the tip.

And, thank you As for making every inning a real /exciting/ one!

Firefox is nice
It's simpler, faster, and has tabs.
And it works as good or better as IE about 95% of the time
Firefox...
...is NOT made by Microsoft. A definate plus in my book.
Firefox theme
Make sure you download the PimpZilla theme! It's awesome! Nothing like having a furry, diamond-encrusted browser menu!
just cheched in
to say,

YEAH YEAH YEAH YAEYYYYEAH!!!!!

The Yankees Suck! TheeeeeeeeeeYankees Suck!
Awesome pitching from Barry. The Stankees really look pitiful. It would be a highlight to sweep them in their place. Nice win tonight boys! Shabbat Shalom Ohad!
Thomas
I thought thomas played a horrible game for a guy who was only in there for 2 innings. If you're hitting .100 or less you have to do some little things to help the team. Not only is he not doing that he is making a bad fielding play a game it seems. He should never have called Scutaro off on that ball. Scoot was camped under it and he was running in awkwardly.

This probably went will go unnoticed but his at bat was terrible too. Rivera had just walked in a run and we has 1st and 3rd with 1 out. My first thought was that this would be an excellent time for a squeeze bunt. I assume that Thomas must have some skill as a bunter. He has to at least take 1 pitch in that situation. And its not like he got such a juicy pitch that he couldn't let it go by.

The guy should be back in the minors getting his game back together. Only with Swisher out I doubt they send him down.

when was the last time the A's
pulled a squeeze? One thing for sure, it would catch the opposition off guard
Well ...
I know but ...

They stole two bases, executed a perfect hit and run and tried to sacrifice with Kotsay in the 10th. The 7th run doesn't seem like a big deal except that if Jeter or Posada had gotten on then Sheffield would have represented the tying run.

Game 1. . . .
2003 ALDS.  Greatest end to a game ever seen in person by this man at the Coliseum; or anywhere else for that matter.
That wasnt a squeeze.
That was a bunt for a hit.  The runner from 3rd wasnt running which he would on a squeeze.
Couldn't agree more, Larry E
2-buck Shakur's problems are totally mental at this point. Something's gotta break the cycle, even if he just goes down a short time and returns for a "fresh start."
I actually thought
having Kotsay bunt was a mistake; I want that guy hitting in that situation.
Kotsay
The Yankee announcers made a good point that they thought that a hit and run was better in that situation because guys can usually put the ball in play against Rivera just usually not hard. So a ground ball accomplishes the goal of getting the runner to second and with a little luck you might get a hit out of it.
River tonight
1/2 the outs he got were strikeouts (including Kotsay). Regardless, I would have rather seen him swing away. He sure as heck did a crappy job with the bunt attempt.
Also, frankly Rivera
has trouble getting DPs because he gets so many WEAK grounders (jam shots, broken bats). When Hatte was up bases loaded one out, I thought, "Good--he'll probably get jammed, hit a weak grounder and we'll take the lead." So, agree--hit and run, not bunt, with Kotsay, or swing away. Or wait for the Yankees to make 3 errors while Rivera walks in a run.

The Yankees are one TIGHT team right now.

We won the game.;..
So back off! The "w" is what counts isn't it?
A's Win!!!!!
I'll take any win the Bronx. I don't care how ugly it is!
Any victory over the original Evil Empire
.. in Yankee Stadium is so sweet it's succulent !!

thanks for the Byrnes-like brain cramp, Tino !!

absolutely, positively...
ANY win v. the DamnYankees is a good win.
Don't care if it's Billy Bally, Money Ball, Ugly Ball, whatever.
Excuse me, sir, I believe it's George on the Bat Phone. tee hee.
Tino
Tino didn't make a mental mistake he made a physical one (bobbling the grounder). In that situation he has to do everything he can to prevent the winning run from scoring. He had a small chance of getting the force at home as it was. If he had stepped on first he had no chance at home as Posada would have had to have made a tag. He purposely avoided touching first.
Tino's Bynres-like brain cramp occured
... by trying to make an impossible play after bobbling it. Tino bobbled it, much like Byrnes does every time it's hit to him, and then instead of making the sure play after the bobble -- in this case, stepping on first and eating the ball -- Martinez, in my estimation, had a Byrnes-like brain cramp moment -- and threw it wildly home, permitting another run to score without getting an out.

when the dust settled, that play -- by not getting a single out -- cost the Yankees two runs -- a Byrnes-like gaffe indeed.

I agree with Herb Washington
It's always a wonderful thing beating the evil empire in the Bronx. Nice!
What a strange game...
But a dub is a dub baby......Good stuff.  Lets split the freaking weekend now and go on to the Bitch Sox.
Split?
What kind of thinking is that? You're supposed to say, "Let's sweep the series!"
