I started watching in the 7th inning (I had to go home from Santa Cruz), but I have the first part of the game taped. I think I'm going to go back and watch the whole game now, just because I know Zito pitched beautifully.
It's kind of sad how so many of our wins have been the direct result of HUGE errors by the other team in late innings. [On the other hand, the A's have blown a few games due to stupid errors too.]
We can't always count on this, but oh well, we'll "take it" as they say ;)
I've got enough with keeping the feed from cutting out at crucial times, without dealing also with a freaky gameday (too bad, I used to enjoy it last year).
...although I don't use any "Gameday" type stuff while listening to MLB Audio. The audio is like 30 seconds behind the gameday, which takes the suspense out of listening to the game.
Awesome pitching from Barry. The Stankees really look pitiful. It would be a highlight to sweep them in their place. Nice win tonight boys! Shabbat Shalom Ohad!
I thought thomas played a horrible game for a guy who was only in there for 2 innings. If you're hitting .100 or less you have to do some little things to help the team. Not only is he not doing that he is making a bad fielding play a game it seems. He should never have called Scutaro off on that ball. Scoot was camped under it and he was running in awkwardly.
This probably went will go unnoticed but his at bat was terrible too. Rivera had just walked in a run and we has 1st and 3rd with 1 out. My first thought was that this would be an excellent time for a squeeze bunt. I assume that Thomas must have some skill as a bunter. He has to at least take 1 pitch in that situation. And its not like he got such a juicy pitch that he couldn't let it go by.
The guy should be back in the minors getting his game back together. Only with Swisher out I doubt they send him down.
They stole two bases, executed a perfect hit and run and tried to sacrifice with Kotsay in the 10th. The 7th run doesn't seem like a big deal except that if Jeter or Posada had gotten on then Sheffield would have represented the tying run.
2-buck Shakur's problems are totally mental at this point. Something's gotta break the cycle, even if he just goes down a short time and returns for a "fresh start."
The Yankee announcers made a good point that they thought that a hit and run was better in that situation because guys can usually put the ball in play against Rivera just usually not hard. So a ground ball accomplishes the goal of getting the runner to second and with a little luck you might get a hit out of it.
1/2 the outs he got were strikeouts (including Kotsay). Regardless, I would have rather seen him swing away. He sure as heck did a crappy job with the bunt attempt.
has trouble getting DPs because he gets so many WEAK grounders (jam shots, broken bats). When Hatte was up bases loaded one out, I thought, "Good--he'll probably get jammed, hit a weak grounder and we'll take the lead." So, agree--hit and run, not bunt, with Kotsay, or swing away. Or wait for the Yankees to make 3 errors while Rivera walks in a run.
ANY win v. the DamnYankees is a good win.
Don't care if it's Billy Bally, Money Ball, Ugly Ball, whatever.
Excuse me, sir, I believe it's George on the Bat Phone. tee hee.
Tino didn't make a mental mistake he made a physical one (bobbling the grounder). In that situation he has to do everything he can to prevent the winning run from scoring. He had a small chance of getting the force at home as it was. If he had stepped on first he had no chance at home as Posada would have had to have made a tag. He purposely avoided touching first.
... by trying to make an impossible play after bobbling it. Tino bobbled it, much like Byrnes does every time it's hit to him, and then instead of making the sure play after the bobble -- in this case, stepping on first and eating the ball -- Martinez, in my estimation, had a Byrnes-like brain cramp moment -- and threw it wildly home, permitting another run to score without getting an out.
when the dust settled, that play -- by not getting a single out -- cost the Yankees two runs -- a Byrnes-like gaffe indeed.

Gameday Updates
Anyone else bringing up Gameday online and the darn thing does not update? It did before I went away for a couple of weeks. Now it doesn't. I have to keep switching from "full" to "mini" view to get the latest.
That really stinks. I had to just sign up for MLB audio to hear this game.
